Does anyone like artwork? I rather like modern stuff but also collect pictures by my Uncle. These are a couple of his pictures:

This is ‘The Prospect of Whitby’ in Wapping on the Thames. An historic pub that was once the haunt of smugglers, pirates and thieves. Other famous patrons included Charles Dickens, Samuel Pepys, and artists Whistler and Turner; while another, Judge Jeffreys, is remembered with a replica of a hangman's noose outside

This of course is the Thames looking to St Paul’s.

I hope you like them.

Does very little for me, especially the "abstract" stuff. In fact at school when it came to dropping subjects the Art/History teacher told me "You have no soul boy. You are an empty shell." because I dropped Latin, History and Art in favour of the Maths and Science subjects.:grinning:

My Latin and Classical Studies JMB ‘O‘ Level pass at Grade 5 is one of my proudest academic achievements Al 😂 .

You don’t know what you missed by dropping it up early !!

Anyway enough of that folly , I’m now getting psyched up , all ready for 18 holes with Roversfans.com answer to Dustin Johnson:eek:

He's right too Al. I've never met an accountant who has a soul.:D

As for art whilst I appreciate the skill of portrait / landscape painting I do actually prefer abstract / modern effect stuff...... btw not the daft Tracey Emmings bed / Damien Hirst animal section rubbish. Also I love surrealism of the Salvador Dali / Hieronymus Bosch type although probably in a gallery rather than above my telly.

They are all very good artwork BB but I'm not sure I'd hang em in my house. The style is too dismal.

I'd rather study Maths, Physics and Chemistry than a dead language thank you.

Who can recall the old schoolyard verse............ "Latin is a language, as dead as dead can be. It killed the ancient Romans, and now it's killing me!"

I had much empathy with that for sure.

My father started painting in his retirement. He'd had a heart attack at 61 and a few customers bought him 'paint by numbers' sets to keep him occupied. He enjoyed them so much that he continued painting, mainly with oils. This is one which we have hung in the dining room. Any guesses from the eagle eyed where the church is?

I hope you've still got his house BB. Be worth a bob or two now wouldn't it?

That was my feelings on the subject too. I had to study it for the first two years at college. I hated it with a passion.
