Blackburn explosion: Man pulled from rubble after blast destroys house

One man was rescued and a second suffered minor injuries after the blast in Blackburn, police say.

"Council leader Phil Riley said: "The gas explosion must have been really frightening for everybody involved.
"I'm really sorry one family has lost their home and eight other families needed to be evacuated.
"I hope the man who was inside at the time makes a speedy recovery."

Now I'm only speculating but 9 Families? Surely there are only 3 houses suffering damage in those pictures? Were the others just chancers piling in hoping to lodge a claim for whiplash or similar after the event? I wonder if the insurance company (if there is one) will pick up the hotel tab or might that end up down to us?

As for the injured chap... would he have been found kneeling next to the gas meter with a pair of pliers and mole grips in his hands by any chance?

Just as an aside the house on the left of the pic appears to have had some very dodgy grant work completed. Who on earth would put wool insulation in a cavity? Also those blocks haven't been laid they've just been piled up.

Out of keeping with the area to the extent of being absolutely hideous! Through history stupid people with lots of money have tried to gain favour with their cloud fairy so that they'll get a privileged position on the next cloud when they croak. This is just another such example. Let's hope they have used the same architects as they used for their 'mansions' up the road which were on the point of being condemned recently.

Very depressing, another nail in the coffin for Blackburn. And at the insane (and worsening) rate of immigration, its pretty much a case of today Blackburn, tomorrow the rest of England.

I remember back in the late 60's getting off a bus, adjacent to the "new" St Johns tavern. Talking to an Irish girl, conductor, we were interrupted by a guy who said I work here, when I go home to Pakistan, I live like a king.
Fair enough, but for the rest of the Blackburn indigenous population, they had no idea that the floodgates had opened.
You can't blame the immigrants, they gamed the system, but the politicians of the time have a lot to answer for.
All that's happening is that the country is being dragged down to the place the immigrants left.

I've no bone about the Issa brothers, they've chucked out their anchor, and they've made some money, so well done, but why do their compatriots want to destroy the golden egg?

And since! In fact they have EVERYTHING to answer for. We've seen in Blackburn how politicians used the immigrant vote to further their political career. Castle and Straw worked the system to perfection by toadying to the muslim popualtion. The irony is that the working class population of Blackburn obviously dislike Conservatives more than muslim immigrants who have worked the system to their benefit at the expense of the indigenous population. BWD council have fallen over backwards to spend ever more money on grants etc for the muslim popualtion.

Only a few stood against the tide of hippy love peace, melting pot liberalism of the time and most famously Powell. Reading his speech made in April 1968 the language seems outdated but the message contained is inexorably true. Immigration was allowed to turn into a plague, some might even say a cancer as once it's taken hold it's virtually impossible to stop spreading and killing the host. Speaking out virtually ended Powell's political career none of the legions of spineless career politicians since dare raise the topic of immigration for fear of being hounded out of office by the same Westminster wolf pack. When are the people who hurl the racist card at anybody who offers a contrary opinion going to realise that immigrants per sae are not the enemy it is the foothold gained by Islam, not just in our Isles but across the western world.

I think it’s another branch of the Issa empire. Something to do with land and property development. I don’t think the brothers will be signing on anytime soon, envy and jealousy is a pretty common trait in this town and a lot of people resent the brothers. I say good for them.

Anyway apparently he's grubbed another 850k from down the back of the sofa and given us his spending plans.
