Funny read I liked the line 'What would happen to Glastonbury if Jeremy Corbyn really did win a general election rather than just think he did?'

The use of zero hours contracts by Glastonbury just about sums up the hypocrisy of the trendy lefties. Ooh arhh Jeremy Corbyn :(:(

Democracy as seen by the left wing intelligentsia.

Apparently this is what a Senior Lecturer in Philosophy looks like in the wild.

Surely her actions in this picture have brought the organisation she works for into disrepute. Potentially gross misconduct . It's easy to establish, with very little effort , that she's a senior lecturer at Royal Hollaway , University of London .

As a result I'm sure any sensible parent would advise their offspring to avoid Royal Hollaway, for fear of being indoctrinated by this abusive hard left no-mark

"It is a sign of the dramatic switchback in British politics that Jeremy Corbyn can sack a clutch of rebel shadow ministers with scarcely a murmur of protest from anyone, while Theresa May has to put up with her own Chancellor going around saying that she messed up the election and poking fun at the Foreign Secretary’s fondness for cake.
Backbenchers more or less openly mock May’s deal with the DUPand the hopelessly slow Brexit talks. She’s a joke, a lame duck, a caretaker. She now has a shorter shelf life than Corbyn. There you go.
It is, as someone who knew a good deal about political leadership once said, a funny old world. The departures of Catherine West, Ruth Cadbury and Andy Slaughter from Labour’s front bench will, I’m sorry to say, hardly be noticed, and Corbyn, he needs reminding, has more talent to choose from in his parliamentary party than he perhaps appreciates. If only he is willing to extend the hand of friendship to those who traduced him before.
He needs to bring back those who have felt ostracised or, if you will, alienated themselves from his “project” – the likes of Caroline Flint, Liz Kendall, Yvette Cooper and so on."

I've been watching " the Donald's " visit to France and his meetings with Macron ( I wouldn't trust that two faced , sleazy guy as far as I could throw him - gives me the creeps). Donald on top form complimenting Mrs Macron and telling her she's in great shape

However what's struck me is the " shrug of the shoulder " approach of the French people . If he'd have been visiting the Queen I'm pretty sure we'd have had protests and all that stuff ( probably rioting too ) from the hard left , the liberal luvvies , the middle class "uni " lot , public sector unions , no borders , the pussy women , refugees welcome here et al

Have the French leftards gone on holiday ? They usually love a good riot over there or have they all moved to London ?

Maybe the mood of the French is changing in emphasis following events over the past few years.

I'd imagine they're in a slightly tricky situation. Macron is currently their hero, defeated Le Pen who I'm sure they despised. It wouldn't sit well with them at the moment slagging him off which means they're obstructed from slagging Trump off who Macron is hosting. I'd imagine the same thing would have happened over here had Corbyn won the election and then hosted a Trump visit.

Plus there's the generally calmer approach of the supporters of a winning side, which I think applies universally whether it be politics, football or anything else.

I'd imagine Trump will go through his diplomatic duties but find time for a meeting or two with Le Pen.

So really what you're saying blueandwhitehalves is when the left get the result they want they're happy with the democratic process and they'll accept it , but if it goes the other way they'll riot ;)

Exactly right, with a million (500) marchers/rioters backing them up on the streets, some democracy we have!

Well to an extent, but then I think the right would be getting quite vocal by now had we lost 3 general elections in a row.

Its a grey area really to what extent its acceptable to have political activism within democracy. Its always struck me as a method for increasing the importance of the activists own views (and therefore decreasing the importance of everyone else's). Should democracy just be about having votes (on GEs, local council, referendums) and then shutting up and accepting results, and should political protests be made illegal to enforce this?

I'd say probably not because in cases where governments may be starting to abuse their powers (e.g. Erdogan's in Turkey), an established culture of political protesting is useful to oppose it quickly and strongly.

I'd certainly draw the line at the violence the hard left seem occasionally intent on using though, the authorities should come down like a ton of bricks on that because its fascism in effect.

I'd never argue that a referendum result , a general election result or local council results should shut down genuine political activism ,protest or debate . My concern is the nasty section of the left which is becoming more mainstream as Corbyn , McDonnell , Abbott and their Momentum backers gain a respectable aura that they hardly deserve. I think evidence of this reared it's ugly head during the election campaign , directed at Conservative parliamentary candidates . There appears to be a lack of tolerance of any view that isn't hard left wing . That is bordering on fascism

I think you mentioned an incident on this forum of a conversation you had with Nigel Evans in a pub in Clitheroe when he had to leave because of the abuse he received from a left wing teacher and her pals . Even after Blair had won three elections in a row I doubt that sort of incident would ever have happened to a Labour MP . The hard left hatemongers even go after their own in an abusive way ,evidenced by the disgraceful treatment of Yvette Cooper which Corbyn's Labour has refused to commit to investigate.

I see a real nasty left wing party emerging under a cloak of respectability

"Jean-claude Juncker got the wrong idea when he sounded off at MEPS in Strasbourg last week, says Hannelore Crolly. The European Commission chief was livid that only 30 of the 751 MEPS turned up to hear Malta’s prime minister, Joseph Muscat, deliver a report on his just-completed six-month term as EU president. “You are ridiculous,” fumed Juncker. His rant confirmed the popular prejudice that MEPS are so pampered, they can’t even be enticed by the daily s306 they get just for turning up. But if MEPS baulked at listening to Muscat lavishing praise on himself, it wasn’t out of disrespect to the EU’S smaller members. It was because the MEPS know all too well that Muscat and his colleagues are up to their necks in corruption. The Panama Papers leaked last year revealed that right after Muscat’s Labour Party won office in 2013, Muscat’s closest aide set up a company in Panama which seems to have been involved in a controversial scheme to sell Maltese passports to wealthy Russians. Meanwhile, Muscat’s wife is said to have received s1m from Azerbaijan shortly before it signed a lucrative energy deal with Malta. Yet when MEPS recently quizzed Muscat about the graft allegations, he denied it. Is it any wonder the MEPS had no stomach for his speechifying?"

Malta eh? Now who do we know who resides in Malta and London, has strong links with the EU, viewed the Brexit result with abject horror and bitterness and was ever so proud of the fact that Malta was providing the 2017 EU President? :poop:

Indeed, Mr Mask,

people who know nothing commenting on things they know even less about.
It's always been the case, though. It used to be a day or so later, a verbal comment would be made (usually made to family or mates) after a newspaper article. Then (speeding up the communications industry) via shock jocks, so, to workmates over lunch or a beer after work.
At the end of the day, we still have a sick child, and parents who desperately want to keep their child alive. My pity is with them....

Are they going to carry out an investigation though. That would cause some turmoil to said person.
I see the Electoral Commission has found "troubling evidence" that people had voted twice in the election, saying they had received 1000 complaints. Last time I looked, the petition calling for them to act was in 6 figures.
