A bit of perspective . The strongest earthquake in the UK in recent times was in 2008 in Market Rasen and measured 5.2 . It moved furniture , set alarms off and toppled some chimney pots . A 1.1 quake ( most recently recorded at Preston New Road ) is 12,500 times less powerful than that. In ' liberal ' Canada the scientific advice is a stoppage should only take place for a tremor of 4.0 and above .

Shale gas will help us reduce our CO2 emissions in the short term whilst we continue to develop renewables which in the perfect world is what we all want . In the meantime , at best estimates , renewables will not fill the energy gap until 2050 at the earliest .

80% of the UK’s 25 million homes are powered by gas and around a quarter of the country’s electricity is generated by gas-fired power stations. 56% of the stuff comes from abroad including lovely democratic places like Russia and the Middle East.

Do you prefer to send our money to these places making despotic regimes richer instead of using our own resource.?

Do you prefer citizens of other countries to take the 'risks ' you aren't prepared to take , so that you can maintain your cushy lifestyle ?

Would you rather the UK import our gas needs in ultra large tankers which burn umpteen tonnes of oil to get here?

If your answers to the above are no ( and they should be ! ) and you don't like the idea of shale gas extraction , get rid of your car , turn off your heating and pull the fuse from your electrics. Not much fun but good preparation if the Labour Momentum Party ever gets into power.

If the right wants to politicise fracking here's a view from one of those who make the Tories so toxic.

And here's another example of the corruption at the heart of this "government".

Secret meetings behind closed doors show that the Tory's do not give a flying fig what the majority or local people want regarding fracking. As long as they and their friends in the private sector can make a buck that is all that matters.

Universal Credit, austerity, the destruction of the police and the NHS and teaching services, Brexit, bungs to the DUP, the Windrush scandal, Osborne getting £650,000 for a two-day week at BlackRock (in an industry he failed to regulate while in office), these and msny more have made the Tories political pariahs.

Fracking is one drop in a Niagara Falls of venality and incompetence.

As regards the process, fracking is a method of extracting shale gas or shale oil. Both are fossil fuels and emit greenhouse gases when burnt which contributes to climate change. The world needs to get off fossil fuels as soon as possible – and shift to renewable energy.

What’s currently going to keep the lights on and the fires burning whilst we move to 100% renewables ? Imported gas & some poor citizens in Russia & the Middle East putting up with the ‘risk ‘ to keep you warm in the winter ?

Quite rightly the world is changing to renewables but only the naive and unintelligent ( Corbyn and his cult come to mind ) believe this can be done overnight and without using current energy resources including fossil fuels .

The unions, including Unite, continue to meet with Cuadrilla. Secret meetings with Labour’s backers.

Really ? Well that’s very telling and arguably, even though they’re doing it in secret , Unite are obviously lobbying in support of Lancashire working people. They can see the economic growth fracking will provide for the County .

Many of the protesters who aren’t nimbys , are middle class virtue signallers. They belong to Corbyn’s Cult . Momentum Labour has deserted ordinary working people and is now the party of the pseudo intelligentsia , the highly paid professional public sector and the liberal/metropolitan elite - much of it southern based .

The question for the middle class Corbynistas is where do we get our gas from whilst we wait for renewables to supply all our energy needs ?

Doesn't most of Europe's gas come from Russia and Iran? Not the nicest states to be dependent on are they?
