As the post above clearly shows - In all honesty I doubt this forum is the best to get advise on fitness. I did it could I had to for an event I have no idea if it was the right amount or not. We need to find some sort of athlete on the forum that can advise, sadly a lot of us are past our athletic best :-(
Maj is the man for that

So does any1 go swimming ? How many lengths do you do ??
Just getting back into it because my 6 year twins are really into it - they have a coach so I only do the supervision stuff at the moment. I'm as blind as a bat so I've just had some prescription goggles made which should help. When works settles down I'll start doing lane swimming a few evenings a week.

Read thread..normally helps Maj lol
I did I just didn't want to reply to you, as you made a comment about my egg habit and it hurt me feely wheelies...

I charge 250 a day and 125 for a half day, so fire away Muhahahaha.

If you do want any advice I might be willing if you ask nicely, might being the operative word.

The cheapest, and one of the best, exercise is walking. I did 5 miles this morning (got soaked mind you) and generally do 30 - 40 miles per per week. I ensure there are plenty of uphill bits as well (what goes up must come down).

4 times a year I do a 'lads' weekend fell walking in the Lakes. We do some fairly challenging stuff (Coledale Round, Newlands Round, Kirk Fell - Great Gable, Blencathra etc). We have a brilliant time meeting up, walking then eating and drinking in the evenings. It is good for the soul and fantastic to be on a mountain top.

Swimming is also good all round exercise - just don't drink the water.

How many lengths do think is good enough to = An intense workout ?
That would be relative to the individual, based on their fitness levels etc. I would ask how you felt afterwards? Did it feel good to have done the number of lengths you did? Do you have any muscle soreness? Did you feel tired physically once the session was complete? For me in Swimming as long as you go and swim vigorously IE keep trying to swim as fast as you can, and do so for a decent time/lengths (one assume a 50m pool? so if your doing say 20 with vigor, then that would seem decent). If that's too high a target presently, then as long as you can answer yes to at least 2 of the initial questions, then I would say you had worked out hard enough to get a response.
