View attachment 101 Just booked my favourite New York hotel again: www.libraryhotel.com

Going in September.....great for the galleries and the High Line.

What have you booked?
The Library is my favourite hotel in NYC too BB. January was the last time I was there but I've stayed many times.

Got to be careful with that free wine and cheese in the lounge though. I've "popped in" there a few times and once or twice been half pissed before I've even left the hotel.

It's only a short walk from my favourite bar in NYC too - the Ginger Man

Brilliant, I am glad you like it and have equally good taste ;). My favourite gallery (The Morgan, after JP Morgan) is only 5 minutes away on Madison Ave.

I must admit to hammering the free wine and cheese, especially the wine.

My favourite bar is the Gramercy Tavern just off Union Sq (great farmers market at the Square): www.gramercytavern.com

I will deffo try the Ginger Man......thanks. ( I just looked at the website and I will be going. The beer range looks brilliant - I will try the Doggie Style)

I will visit Gramercy next time I'm over there, it looks great, thanks for the info.

Another great beer bar is the Pony Bar. The one I usually go to is in Hells Kitchen but they have another on the upper East Side too.

The website has a real-time list of what they have on draft at each bar (in fact, looking at it now just makes me want to go :grinning:)

No proper hols for us this year, after doing Sydney / Ottawa four years in a row, 30 hours each way!
Daughter and son in law coming back to live in Aus. Yeah
Must admit, enjoyed the stopovers in Hawaii and SF, Vancouver etc, but it's one hell of a journey, especially when you go through LA.
If any of you enjoy North America, have a look at Quebec, stay in the old quarter near to the Citadel. Amazing place. Plenty of bars, restaurants etc.
Probably going to Wellington NZ for a long weekend in November for our first anniversary of an earthquake. Hope I'm not tempting fate.

Just got back from a brilliant holiday in Tenerife. I can recommend the H10 Gran Tinerfe but to get the full benefit you need to upgrade to Privilege. Booked for the 10th year in succession to the Atlantica Golden Beach hotel in Paphos in October. Absolutely brilliant at that time of year.

Dave, I had never thought about Quebec, I will take a look at some web sites. I had been looking at Montreal as I have enough BA Miles to take myself and the Missus; have you been there, if so do you have ny recommendations re reasonable hotels, bars, restaurants etc. Ta, BB.

Went to Riga (Latvia) for a city break in January, Mexico for eleven nights in March and Crete for a week in May. Off to Lloret/Perpignan to watch Wigan RLFC on Friday for three nights, Scilly Isles for a few days in August and then back to Mexico for two weeks in November.

Just keep raiding the pension scheme. Best thing the Government has ever done, changing the way you can access your pension pot. It's hard work being early retired, I can tell you!

BB, always stayed with my daughter in Ottawa or in their family cottage in the Laurentians two hours north of Montreal. Montreal is a nice town with an area on the river which is steeped in history.
We had a few days in Quebec city which was far too short, all we had time for was to look around the citadel and the old quarter.

Can't remember the hotel we stayed at in Quebec city. It was very comfortable though
A word of warning, don't go in winter, Ottawa is the second coldest capital in the world in winter -20 is not uncommon. We were there in late July /early August and it was warm to hot

Just had 10 days in the "Top End"---- Darwin
Kakadu National park, Arnhem Land etc.
36c every day 20c+ every night.
Bloody big crocodiles catching and eating bloody big fish.
Seeing aboriginal rock paintings going back 10,000 years.
Going to Aboriginal burial places thousand of years old and seeing the remains still in situ.
Watching an aboriginal man paint his life story on what would be, eventually, his coffin.
Even at my age, I learned a lot about a culture that is all around us in Aus and is not properly understood by western folk.

booked for Sardinia next year
Wazzer is out there now Abbs.

I am thinking of North Korea next year. It should be warm and cheapish. Does anyone know what the exchange rate is and how much a pint and pickled egg will be?

How was Crete? My fav destination, so beautiful.
Sorry Maj, only just seen your post. We stayed in Plakias, a very small village/resort on the south coast. Mountains and a couple of gorges behind the village, very picturesque. Nothing much to do there other than sunbathe on the beach or by the pool possibly a bit of walking. We just wanted to chill for a week. My wife gets email alerts from a travel agent in Warrington and this holiday was a cheapie, only £185 each per week b&b. Would have been rude not too!

Just booked the Library for a 5 day stay in January BB.

Added bonus was they emailed me a Black Friday 25% discount yesterday, so couldn't have worked out better :D
Brilliant. I am so so jealous of you. Don’t forget the Gramercy Tavern. And please tell me how you get on. Ta, BB
