Rovers' International Players

I like to keep an eye on how our players do at international level, although it's a much smaller affair than it used to be.

We have two players called up for international duty for the upcoming games.

Dominic Hyam (Scotland)
  • Spain v Scotland Thursday 12th October at 19:45
  • France v Scotland Tuesday 17th October at 20:00
Arnór Sigurðsson (Iceland)
  • Iceland v Luxembourg Friday 13th October at 19:45
  • Iceland v Lichtenstein Monday 16th October at 19:45
Notes
  • According to Tomasson, the Iceland coach said that Sigurðsson will definitely play in the game against Luxembourg, and possibly get some minutes against Lichtenstein.
  • Sam Szmodics was initially not called-up to the Republic of Ireland squad. Aaron Connolly suffered an injury, after which Szmodics was called-up, but he has since suffered a personal issue which has made him withdraw from the squad.
  • No Leopold Wahlstedt in the Sweden squad, which is understandable given his lack of game time.
  • Zak Gilsenan and Andrew Moran have been included in the Republic of Ireland Under-21 squad.
  • Tom Bloxham has been included in the Republic of Ireland Under-19 squad.

That sounds mysterious.

Sigurðsson starts for Iceland. I think I will try to tune-in to that game rather than the England game which will no doubt be overshadowed by who snuck a flag into the stadium.

If you'd like a way to watch it, message me (provided this is OK, admin).

I wish I’d taken you up on your offer pal as England were crap. Well the bit I saw before I fell asleep showed that, they were as dull as dishwater.

I only managed to catch the first 30 minutes or so of Iceland v Luxembourg before I was summoned away. It wasn't a great match from what I saw, but good to see Siggy's performance. He's a quality player.

Hard to believe that it wasn't long ago that Iceland knocked us out of the Euros or something, and yet they can only muster a draw at home against minnows. Mind you, these minnows beat them on their home turf.

Hyam must be well down the pecking order in the Scotland squad. Not even on the bench for their friendly tonight.

Incidentally, I haven't been too impressed with Hyam so far this season, but I wonder if the thought of potentially playing in the Euros next year will give him the boost he needs.

I'm not bothered. The last thing we need are injuries whilst on international duty.
