Supposedly only us and Rotherham of the Championship teams have beaten lower league opposition. So many have gone out . . . .

Where are Burnleee??

Let's hope Sparky gets a great welcome. Mark Hughes Blue and White Army!
Not from me, I remember his massive touchline celebrations when he first returned to Ewood with City. It’s just a business to him, no loyalty to little old Rovers.

Well if anyone needed proof of the benefits of having a Cat A Academy last night was it. Poor Hartlepool from League two were never really in with a shout against a confident Rovers team showing 10 changes from Saturdays victory at Swansea. The young Rovers team were full of confidant slick passing and appeared to have adopted Pep Guardiola's famed 6 second rule in regaining possession.
My only gripe last night was that whoever is in charge of the Academy is not also in charge of matters at Ewood Park! In fact more of that later as I shall score the club admin after the Referee!

Pears.... 6 Poor lad given his chance to impress had literally nowt to do. Even I could have kept a clean sheet last night.

Rankin-Costello.... 6 Picked in his now customary right back spot Joe did all that was needed but failed to impress me that he has recovered his pre injury form.

Phillips.... 8 First time I've seen this lad but everything I've heard about him is true. I hope it's not the last too! What a prospect! At 6ft 4" he is a giant of a boy and at just turned 17 might still be growing! Atheltic, skilfull, and composed beyond his years Phillips directed the play from the back in the manner that I'd expect from a seasoned pro like Ayala. Peter Jackson's MoM but I suspect that was a tactic formulated before a ball had been kicked to chivvy him along into signing a new deal at Ewood. Sure he wasn't up against much and there will be much he still needs to learn to play against wily old centre forwards but I'd not be frightened to see him step up to limited first team duties. Just a pity that we will probably see him off to a big fish club for a meagre half million only to see a bigger fish pay circa 100m for him in three or four years time. How that system is allowed to be in place is just appalling!

Wharton S.... 7 A solid and mature display highlighted by a thumping near post header from a Morton corner to open the scoring.

Edun.... 7 Nice performance from Edun who ventured forward throughout. Like the rest of the defence he was rarely tested defensively.

Morton... 7 First time we have seen Morton but he looks like he will give the other midfielders a run for their money. A performance characterised by anticipation, invention and accurate passing. Again last nights match was no real test after his usual experiences at Melwood.

Wharton.... 7 Looks mighty skinny but early reports that he is a better prospect than Scott could well be valid. Great to see two Blackburn lads playing in the same team.

Markanday.... 7 Maybe I was expecting more but with a team of outstanding young talent perhaps I'm being greedy. With a little luck he'd have had a hat trick. A well taken goal will give him a boost.

Dack.... 7 Seemed a little sluggish but then again he's never been quick. Second half with us in front he came alive. Finished off a great move by anticipating the cross better than any of his teammates in the squad and tormented Hartlepool from then on. That sort of timing is a 'born with' ability than a training ground routine and that is what we have missed whilst he has been injured.

Vale.... 7 Nothing came off for Jack in the striking dept as he finished with a blank but he offers something that BBD and Gally don't, like Dack he relishes providing for those around him and midfielders striding forward into space.

Dolan.... 8 Box of tricks all night on the left wing that the poor Hartlepool defence simply couldn't get close too stifling. A great finish when needed and should have had a penalty. He will have given JDT a headache for Sunday's visit of WBA ..... and any visiting PNE fans the bellyache!

Subs

Pickering (Wharton S 45) 7 Obviously pre planned as Scott was the only survivor from the trip to Swansea. I hardly noticed an change tbh.

Batty (Edun 79) Easiest debut he could have made. Is it too much to hope that both he and Philips would sign another contract soon? Such a shame loyalty and gratitude don't figure too much in these days where money men and agents have the whip hand over players and clubs.

Buckley (Dack 83) Gave a chance for the crowd to show their appreciation of a returning Bradley Dack.

Manager JDT.... 8 Everything he does turns to gold it seems. Sent out a good second string who dominated in possession and goals. Last night was a tribute to his recent efforts but did anyone other than I give a nod to Tony Mowbray's legacy? TM inherited a car crash of a club and in 5 years has left us with a healthy progressive squad full of real talent. The King is dead, long live the King.

Referee James Bell 5 Scrupulously fair to both teams but far too fussy for my liking.

BRFC.... 2 Ticketing fiasco. With just over 6000 tickets to sell they cocked up as usual. Why does it have to be like this? My mate arranged to collect his ticket and didn't get on until 20 minutes was past. They shoot themselves in the foot time and again.
Next up the tannoy wasn't loud enough to detect the subs names and the bloody screen almost illegible. Why not just leave the screen as it was so that people in the BB end and the BBE JW Upper can actually read it!!!! That is after all it's purpose!
