This Saturday sees the visit of PNE to Ewood Park for a ridiculous lunchtime kick-off that hasn't been moved for the TV moguls but by the club and the police, despite the fixture at Deepdale having been 3pm .

Preston can proudly stand alongside Bury and Accrington as one of the few teams within local range that has never played in the Premier League.
In fact, in a couple of years' time they will be able to celebrate it being 60 years since they last played in the top flight of English football

Anyway, back to the modern day and I admit to having some trepidation about this fixture.
Preston are unbeaten in the league since New Year's Day, which was a defeat away at Rotherham (we all know that feeling )
They have scored 7 goals more than Rovers and conceded 6 fewer and are 4 points above us.

Nobody who went to Deepdale in the autumn and stood in the sold-out away end will need reminding how quickly our enthusiasm and optimism were trampled down by an effervescent Preston team, who tore at us from the off and were 2-0 up inside ten minutes.

Never mind though, our defence has come on leaps and bounds since then

Will Paul Gallagher yet again produce some moments of mastery against us?
Will Alex Neill outwit ToMo?
Will our defence turn up?
Will anyone predict a Preston win?

I have no logic left to base my prediction on, so I'm going for a "law of averages" 2-1 victory to Rovers.
Surely it has to happen soon - hasn't it?

I think if one looks at the season so far our worst results have been against clubs lower than us.

There hows that for optimism?:sun:

It's more hope....... I really think it's going to be 1-7 to Preston but I'm going for 0-0

If you really think 1-7 then you need to put a few bob on in the bookies. Odds will be high on that score.

Wasn't going to predict cos I fear the worst, for this one, but I've come round to thinking it might be a 2-2-er. Expecting them to equalize in the last minute mind.

Excellent preview WB - thanks .

As an ex - Preston schoolboy , this sits just behind the Dingles as a most win derby game for me . I remember PNE winning the 3rd Division in the early 70s and getting over 27,000 for their final game against Rotherham ( 3-0 win from memory ) The photos of that night were plastered all over the Evening Post’s window on Fishergate the next day . I think that’s just about the last thing of ‘ note’ they’ve won

I used to get some grief from time to time on Preston Bus Station after school , waiting for the 150/152 Ribble Bus back to Hare & Hounds in Clayton, probably due to my Blackburn Rovers shoulder bag !

I’ve always thought PNE are a bit like the Rovers , suffer from having their ground quite some way out of the centre . I think the Dingles have an advantage in that way , their club seems to be more part and parcel of the town due to the ground’s location and the fact that the cricket club is next door . How about Rovers and East Lancs relocating to Thwaites and the old market !!!

Played 3 times on Deepdale in school cup finals and in 1974 , shook hands with & received the Preston Schools 5th Form Lucas Shield from Tom Finney . That was quite a proud moment.

Anyway it’s at fortress Ewood on Saturday. TM has to send out the Rovers and muller this lot . I can’t predict anything but a win - it’s about time we beat them at home .

The Famous Blue and White Halves 4

The Lilywhites 1 ( 93rd minute consolation )

Up the Rovers

Probably the most unpredictable of the lot of our recent matches. Derby matches frequently seem a great leveller. PNE had a good season last year and only just missed out on the play offs. The mystery this year is why they got off to such a poor start to the season. Since they beat us they've had very good form and been very much on the up. Rovers will have to raise their game but tbh they have done that on a number of occasions this season and suffered the reverse affect against some of the poorer teams. tbf they've done that for as long as I've supported them.
At deepdale after a dreadful start of giving two early goals away I recall the Rovers had large chunks of the match only to fall for the sucker punch on counter attacks. This has been a regular failing this season which imo is down to good passing up to the opposing box but a little too deliberate in the build up. The midfield shouldn't telegraph their intent by looking up but rather just sling the ball into the mixer without looking up and trusting that DG or BD will react before the defenders. They definitely have the quality to that's for sure. That tactic worked well for the SAS 25 years ago didn't it?
