The discussions with Blackburn began just before I joined Southend and progressed through October and November before the decision was made to appoint me. A great opportunity that I felt I could not pass up at this time in my career.

Ben is going to freak out:
As CEO, I will pool all my previous football knowledge, skills and experience to work with the Owners, the management team and staff, both on and off the pitch, plus the supporters and the many stakeholders attached to the club to continue to build a strong and stable platform for future growth and success.

Hardly a CV steeped in top-level experience is it?

Not that we are top level any longer but a CEO whose experience is listed as

Southend United
Gillingham
Coventry City
Charlton Athletic

is hardly going to set pulses racing. Perhaps he has plenty of air miles to use up :)

Shouldn’t be surprised really.
I’d like to know which boxes he ticked apart from “cheap”.
If our wonderful owners really had aspirations for the club they wouldn’t be taking on a CEO who has been drifting round at sub-Championship level for the last 7-8 years.

Indeed. I shouldn't pre-judge but given his cv to date I'd imagine that he'd have crawled a mile over broken glass to get the job. I shouldn't I know but I'm getting vibes of another Shelfie.
