Hmm... I once read that building land was so expensive in New York they were building apartments without kitchens as most people chose to eat fast food and have another bedroom.

I'd like to see them try that excuse in Blackburn ;)

Holmes Mill brewery tour followed by a bite to eat tonight courtesy of the Bank. Bit of a corporate hook attached of course and no doubt it'll be tedious on the basis of the been on one ... been on em all effect. Lets be honest who cares about how the stuff is made?

Been on a few of them when there were three operating breweries in Blackburn. I was secretary of the company sports club and the guy who organised them, so I went on them all. They were very popular and everybody wanted to go but the organiser was always first on the list. As you say they become much of a muchness end everybody shuffled around the breweries, looking interested, but couldn't wait to get to the sampling room. Somehow the beer there always tasted better than at the pub but they always insisted that it was exactly the same.

You’re quite right, if you know about brewing beer or have done a couple before, all you are really doing is looking at their equipment and waiting for the sampling.
Best one I’ve been on was Bank Top brewery in Bolton.
The guy said we had paid for a two hour visit so we could either go with him for an hour on the tour followed by an hour in the bar or skip the tour and sup as much as we wanted for the two hours :grinning:

We went to little Italian in Lancaster centre on Sunday ( near home bargains) ...it was very tasty and the hot chocolates where expensive but worth it.

Bank Top is great ale, I may have to do the brewery tour on your recommendation. The 3 Bees Brewery tour was always a great night out (and taxi home), I expect Gord has experienced the same tour.

Yeah but I didn't like one of the three B's ales on offer BB. tbh I'm not really a bitter drinker although during the day I usually choose a 'session beer' type. In the evenings I much prefer a decent quality lager. I've done the York brewery tour also. It's all corporate stuff as I wouldn't attend another brewery tour by choice. Biggest issue that I have, although it is quite understandable, is when then tour ends and we all descend on the bar with our beer tokens in our hands is that they only apply to the beers made on the premises, and if I want a lager I've to pay for it.
I must say the lamb hot pot at the end of the tour at Holmes Mill was absolutely exceptional! Only problem as most people commented was that it resembled a starter portion!

Wouldn't want lager anyway if there is ale involved unless it's one of the expensive ones like Staropramen, Czech Budvar or Peroni and it's got to be chilled and on draught. Not interested in cans and bottles.

I bet you don't abstain from lager on your numerous jollies Al.

btw lots of decent Polish lager sold dirt cheap in the local Polski Skleps that have sprung up in this area.

I said when there is ale involved. On holiday there is no ale available, not that I would want it to be. Hot climates are the right place for cold draught lager particularly Methos in Greece and San Miguel in Spain. I can't get on with the beer in Cyprus though. I usually go for long G&T's there.
