Let's assume, arguendo, that figure is correct. For all your bluster about the royals' invaluable contribution to our economy, their net contribution is a measly £26m of the current £772bn government expenditure? Well, whoopy shit!
And your contribution is ......... what exactly Amo?

Yes, it must be exhausting attending the occasional function. Jesus Christ.

The rich are only interested in consolidating their own wealth and privilege. The royal family don't give a damn about the common people, they only ask that we continue to prop them up with our taxes. Your anachronistic mindset belongs in the Middle Ages.
Considering the fuss the left made about the Tories alliance with the DUP redirecting (not even costing) £1 billion, shouldn't £26 billion be shouted from the rooftops? In any case I'd say a 3% contribution to the budget of a 65 million-strong country by one family is pretty good going.

Hmm I think arguing for the retention of the monarchy solely based on its economic value would have probably had me executed for treason in the middle ages.

I'm not sure what era the sophisticated, nuanced claim "the rich don't care about anyone" belongs in. Maybe more a place, like the media studies common room of a former polytechnic or the Big Brother house when they've had a night on the sauce.

Where was b&wh’s bluster (loud, aggressive, or indignant talk with little effect.) in his previous posts on this subject ? If anyone’s using bluster it’s you . I think , although he’ll correct me if I’m wrong , b&wh said the royal’s contribution was net £26 billion not net £ 26 million . If it is £ 26 billion then it’s hardly small beer . If it’s £ 26 million its a bigger contribution than you or I are ever going to make in our lifetimes , unless you are some highly paid , highly taxed success story .

PS Impressed with the Latin usage though

The biggest Royal lovers are the working class.

Anyhow I realise this is a shock to some of you but I suspect the Queen may die one day (Comrade Corbyn may have something to do with it). If / when she does go I will be on a train straight down to London to say thank you. The added value the Royals bring is fantastic; just look and listen to those fawning Europeans outside Buckingham Palace.

Personally, I found the interview revolting and switched channels. The way the Royals talk is embarrassing. If the Germans would like them back as a Brexit leaving gift they are welcome to have them. Could we have their excellent public services in exchange?

Talk of the Royals' "value" to the UK economy is grossly exaggerated given that they hide their money in offshore bank accounts and from public scrutiny (while pleading poverty to get public money to renovate Buckingham Palace!!!), are exempt from inheritance tax and use secretive powers to influence parliamentary legislation

I believe the only people who would actually be taken in by the fantastical "net benefit" figure would be intellectually, lazy ideological royalist sycophants in search of some big looking numbers to feed into their personal confirmation biases.

Why anyone should actually like Royals is beyond comprehension really. I guess the answer is that some people just like to be subservient. They like to be abused and taken advantage of by people they consider to be their superiors. And for the same reasons they're probably also the same sort of people who vote Conservative.

Chris.
Tell you what Chris , if you find Harry and Meghan revolting , watch this while drinking some revolutionary champagne and singing "The Red Flag" and " Oh Jeremy Corbyn " , it might make you feel better ( and less likely to revolt) . This features two stars from Her Majesty's opposition front bench in all their glory

What can working class heroes like Diane and Emily possibly have in common with royalty ? Well their children enjoyed a private and privileged education too .

Oh and like the royals they both earn their corn as public servants . Whose providing better value ?

Why did I expect that sort of reaction from someone who can't see a way to make himself rich so prefers to try to make everybody else poor?

Love the Royals, vote Conservative. Tug your forelock, kiss their feet. You get what you vote for, which is poverty and subservience.

I was a life long socialist and Labour supporter. No more. The only way is capitalism.

In a perverted way I hope Jezza and his Terrorist supporting mates get in so we can see what a f**k up they make of the economy, it will set Labour back two generations.

Even if the government had announced a " royal bank holiday" , employers aren't obliged to follow the diktat. What would have happened is the public sector would have got an extra holiday ( on top of the extraordinary number they get already) and for the rest of us it would have been pot luck, dependent on whether our employer wanted to celebrate it . If you are an employee of an anti-royalist , then not much chance

My suggestion to at least honour Harry and Meghan's big day , is to move the May Day Holiday , which was established in 1978 by the communist Michael Foot whilst he was Employment Secretary . I think his intention was to recognise " International Workers’ Day " as at the time the UK and its busted economy resembled a socialist state much like Cuba, USSR and North Korea. As we seemed to have disruptive strikes every other week in the days of that Labour Government , it was a tad ironic .

So in modern day parlance #movemaydayforharryandmeghan

Ah, the old switcheroo.

I'd wager I've paid more out of my pocket proportionate to my income than those moochers have.

It’s a sick and slavish mindset that supports, if not openly celebrates, disproportionate wealth and privilege based solely on dynastic inheritance.
Exactly it will cost a fortune..whilst folk live in squaler the elite party at no expense spared .

What is your definition of the term 'poverty'? Only ask because I've never seen real poverty except on the telly.

No need for squalor anywhere in this country these days. According to my parents even in the great depression people had pride about their situation and did their best to alleviate it. Cleanliness being next to Godliness for many.
