in the last 5 mins there should have been 2 possible penalty appeals . 1st one should have been a pen and second could have gone either way ,i think yes a soft one as the city lad was all over him.
WHAT A WASTE OF TIME WHEN ITS CAUSED MORE ARGUING THAN IF DECISIONS HAD JUST BEEN GIVEN AND GET ON WITH NO CHANCE OF REPLAY.

Just seen a VAR decision in the game Melbourne Victory v Western Sydney.

Took about 7 minutes!
One send off was due to VAR.
Get rid

This is the video of it.

Also interesting to see the second goal - the striker almost missed an open goal - lucky boy.

BTW, what would have happened if the keeper had saved the penalty and the ball been put into the net by a player following up?
I assume time was up as soon as the original kick was made but it could have been confusing (MORE confusing, should I say)

There's a simple problem with VAR:

1. Everyone wants to keep the game moving so want quickly made decisions.
2. The uproar at getting something wrong even after using VAR would be so great that the operators have to be careful and look at replays a while before slowly making a decision.

VAR can only be used for things that are a simple yes or no decision able to be made by computers, e.g. has the ball crossed the line.

Is he any relation to Derrick Williams?

btw I'd have overruled the VAR if I'd been the ref. It hit the lads hand but he was already attempting to move his hand behind his body, also he actually deflected it toward his own goal.

Screwed up on the biggest stage at the first attempt.

Can only repeat my previous comment. If its not extremely simple, and few decisions are, VAR can either do it quick and take the risk of huge embarrassment at even a slight chance of getting it wrong, or do it slow and guarantee its right.

The English domestic football attempts this season have seen it done slow and right, and fans have got wound up by 2-3 minute delays to the game. So FIFA seem to be focusing on doing it quick, which means if the adjudicator isn't utterly 100% certain in the first few seconds, they're not using it.

Just watched the final 5 mins of Portugal v Iran and I have to say that VAR's OK but it appears that there is no translation in Paraguayan Spanish for "deliberate". I don't think we'll be seeing the inept Senor Caceras again. He's getting all manner of crap for giving that penalty after watching it on VAR but I think we must remember that Ronaldo made as big a rick by missing a penalty which would have put Portugal top of their group but few will whinge at him will they? As far as I am concerned if there is still any doubt then either the original decision should stand OR in time honoured tradition the defending team should be given the benefit of the doubt.

"Everybody makes mistakes.... that's why they put rubbers on the end of pencils" Unfortunately as far as I can see VAR is not the improvement that we all hoped for. Whilst we have plonkers in possession of the whistle it's far from infallible.

it was however bang on for the Spain game with the offside at the end. The Moroccans shouting bullshit to the cameras.
My solution would be make each game 40 mins per half, the time would be done rugby/NFL style ie. stop the clock for free kicks ,corners etc, take the decision out of the refs hands and give power to the VAR people.
Id give the manager a red flag (nfl again) and if he wanted to appeal a decision then throw the flag and they could have two flags per half .If they appeal the right decision then they keep the flag , if they appeal the wrong decision they lose it. Lose two no more .

Another thing .... wtf was Stuart Pearce on when he says Ronaldo should have been sent off? The Iranian was trying to block him and Ronaldo won the ensuing tussle. No way was there a deliberate attempt to elbow the iranian. On the other hand Stuart Pearce was a right dirty sod as a player. In fact I recall he ended David Hamilton's career when he piled right through him with a flying lunge.
