Venky's judgement

Hughes had an eye for talent AND he exceeded expectations. Signing players is only half the battle, melding them into a cohesive unit is the rest. Notwithstanding the fact that there was a vast turnover of players during Bowyer's tenure, so law of averages some of them will work out. He also re-signed Alan Judge, only to bin him after a dozen appearances. The same Judge who went on to become one of the Championship's most prolific players before his injury. That doesn't say much for Bowyer's judgement, let alone Venky's. ;)

Bowyer probably would've made a good no. 2, with his talent spotting and nice-guy demeanour. We had a Peter Taylor, we just needed a Cloughie to go with him.
Because Gaz did everything around Jason Lowe, multitude of theories for that but if it was just down to his judgement (not sure it was) then he was badly wrong to insist on trying to build a team around him.

Some blamed the style of play on Rhodes starting every game but i'd say most of the blame for that negative style was down to the team having to accommodate JLowe as well. No surprise that every actual decent player accommodated in team by the GB was sold for good money except captain fantastic who ran his contract down and took us down then struggled to get any takers until the last min when agent friendly Arry stepped in :p

You criticise GB but so has just about every manager since relegation when Lowe was fit. Must say Smallwood is one of our most consistent performers but I do believe that Lowe would actually do as good or better job of sitting behind Dack and Chapman in attacking midfield.
Do you actually see Lowe being worse than the likes of Akpan, Guthrie, Evans?

Lowe was more mobile than Akpan, Guthrie & Evans but they all had double his football ability. He wasn't any good at doing this fabled 'unseen' work either you could count on one hand the times he actually broke play up or marked someone out of a game. A poor payer who had the luxury of a massive contract at Ewood but when that was up and he was free virtually no one wanted him until the last min when Brum got desperate. See where he ends up in the next 12 months when he's fit again and his deals up and we'll come back to this.

Also on GB I did say that's Lowes inclusion whenever fit and wherever in the team came from a higher being IMO, that applies to the other managers as well.

Personally I don't believe he'd make any difference whatsoever even in this league as Smallwood brings everything that Lowe never did, yes he's limited too but he makes his presence felt whereas Jason was the most ineffective footballer I've seen at Ewood, not the crappest just the most anonymous. Might agree on your idea of him in an attacking midfield because I always thought he might be more effective pressing the opposition further up the field as you could never moan at his workrate but it was wasted sitting deep because it didn't do what it was supposed to do often enough.

Someone just referred to Mugabe's reign as a "dynasty of incompetence". At least he probably knew what he was doing unlike Venkys for past 7 years.

Any comparison is that with both they've taken over a thriving and successful situation, fucked it up and virtually bankrupted it. If there is a difference I believe Mugabe is incredibly evil whilst the venkys are incredibly inept.

May as well put this here........... A couple of snippets that have reached my shell like. Seems the venkys are watching from afar.

The players are on a coach down to Gillingham but the venkys have stumped up to fly them home straight after the match in order for them to be well rested with less disruption to their routines as possible for the Bristol away match on Saturday.

Also funds have been promised to strengthen the squad should we get promoted AND funds promised too if we don't so that we will be able to a. fend off any approaches for our better players and b. sign better players for our weaker positions. Of course such decisions are usually in the hands of the player's and their agents these days.

I hope they rot in hell for all eternity.
Funny thing is Stockholm Syndrome.
Lowest position in nearly 40 years yet gullibles are blinded by 3 rd tier success.

If they really are going to fund us I think we should at least give them a chance to show they mean it. What is the alternative?

That's good news . Throughout this season the Rovers seems to have been run like a normal football club. We have a CEO who is making the right noises , a manager who is getting it right on the pitch , a top first team player looking to extend his contract and a youth set where one or two are stepping up to the first team, as well as getting to the quarter finals of the youth cup and on the verge of winning the U23 league .

It's been a painful 7 years filled with disappointment and at times hopelessness . I felt it most when Coyle was appointed . Although I considered packing it in at that time, I couldn't imagine myself sat at home or doing other things whilst a bunch of players wearing the famous blue and white halves were running out at Ewood . When I think about it now, the only thing that would have made me stop was if Venky's had done a Vincent Tan and changed the shirt .

I honestly don't think we have any alternative but to hope Venky's have learnt , trust that they have appointed the right people and continue to fund the club. That might be naive but like Al says , what other choices are there ?

You gave your opinion which everybody is already well aware of, but you ignored Al's (and OOT) question Abbey. Taking lessons in evasion from BenJimJohn by any chance?

Don't be daft. No one can forget whats happened can they. It'd be like me forgetting how you applauded the start of the rot when they binned off Allardyce. You cheered to the rafters and proclaimed either Ian Holloway or Tugay to replace him.

Flying is nothing new they were doing that under Bowyer from long distance hauls. The rest as always we've heard half a dozen times before but this season is probably the first time they've wholeheartedly stood by it.

Losing a player or two is usually inevitable for us whoever is in charge but the acid test is reinvesting the proceeds in some more potential talent. Remember 30 mill out and about 3 mill back in in cash buys with the majority of that spent this summer with virtually nothing in between. I think when the overdraft or loans that they part fund Rovers with need paying down again we'll have a similar scenario but hopefully that's a year or two off again and we can make some progress in between.

We'll see.

Not wishing to do a gord but I predicted on the other place that there would be animosity when fans returned.
So it's, if you boycott your not a fan and if you come back your a glory hunter.

The mind boggles ...do you want fans back or just the fans who haven't ..mind you glory hunting returnees didn't return like Gordon did in a higher division than we are now ;)
