My question today is why fuel is 10p a litre cheaper in york than blackburn?

Nope. Although prices everywhere do vary these days although not normally by 10p

Some hog the outside lane too.

Must say I welcome this lane changing warning technology. It's triggered if the white line is crossed without the indicators being used.

Cos they are egotistical and can deliver a speech, Effectively failed actors . They would be actors but most have a face for Radio.

Just me who thinks politicians get an extremely rough ride?

I was in a pub in Clitheroe a few months back when in walked Nigel Evans. Came to the bar next to me and my Labour-supporting friend, we said hello and proceeded to talk politics and share a couple of rounds. Then another group noticed him and within minutes he was getting screamed at nose to nose with fingers jabbing his chest. He left pretty much immediately.

That's the personal life of a politician. I don't know how much they get paid including any benefits, but I doubt it's enough to justify the shit they get. Especially if, as I'm sure is mostly the case, they're doing it because they're genuinely trying to improve society.

Why do people become politicians?
My Dad was a local politician, a Liberal Councillor on Church Urban District Council , many , many years ago . He did it for 16 years and because he came from a family where ‘ doing your duty ‘ for society was drummed into them from an early age . He was also a JP later in life . He was always at meetings , canvassing , working on Council stuff etc . My Mum almost brought us up single handed .

These days I honestly can’t imagine why people want to do it . The dreadful abuse politicians get both in person ( b&wh refers to that in his post above ) and online is enough to grind anyone down .At the other extreme MPs get death threats and one needed a bodyguard at a party conference.

I wouldn’t do it for all the tea in China

Couldn't agree more. I tend to come out dead centre on most political compass quizzes but I decided years ago to throw my lot in with the political right due the obnoxious, bullying way many lefties behave.

Nonetheless, I am as disgusted at abuse of Labour MPs as I am of Tory ones. Frankly whenever I see a politician being screamed at, I don't think "good", I think what a rude asshole the person is doing the screaming. Even Theresa May, this year's political punching bag, is just trying to do what she feels is best. If people disagree with her they should make sure to play the ball, not the man.

or woman.

People are weird though. All that stuff pales into insignificance when one considers the crap actors and in particular soap stars get and sometimes even their kids at school get picked on. All the baddies e.g. Dirty den and Mike Baldwin when he nicked Deidre off Ken etc. People cannot grasp that they are only acting a part and reading a script when they are berating the actors in public.* I suppose some actors will view it as a form of flattery that they have made their character believable.

*and those numpties have the same voting rights as everybody else! That simply should not be.
