Brittain our future right back with JRC in right midfield/wing for me.That would be a good right side for meCracking day all in all, my pet hate the moaners didn't manage to get going thankfully and were drowned out by a lively Blackburn End.
On the pitch, I thought the effort-levels were outstanding. Epitomised by Harry Leonard who literally never stopped. Up against 2 giant centre halves, his nuisance factor reminded me of Paul Dickov (i.e. bloody brilliant). Outmatched physically, but whenever he didn't win a header or a 50/50, he made sure the West Brom defenders got nothing clean, and many times the ball then squirted out to our midfield. Along with his goal I thought he was magnificent.
Other than that, special mentions for Carter at the back who was a rock, and Szmodics who was limited in possession but tireless out of it. Wharton had a funny game I thought, first 10 minutes Zidane-esque, rest of it a liability. So not quite superman yet but hopefully on the way And also as much of a fan as I am of JRC, how good was Brittain when he came on, like bummin Cafu marauding down that right!
Tough game and a hard fought win, but I think that'll be the story of our season now we are officially skint. Hopefully the fans can understand that and continue getting behind our very young squad.
That could work, although there's a lot of competition for those 2 centre-mid slots (treating Szmodics as more of a number 10). If JRC was to move there, there's then only 1 spot for Travis, Tronstad and Wharton.Brittain our future right back with JRC in right midfield/wing for me.That would be a good right side for me
I envisaged JRC in Markandy's position with permission to go inside with Brittain in his natural position at right back. It's JRC who is the enigma not Brittain. That could work, although there's a lot of competition for those 2 centre-mid slots (treating Szmodics as more of a number 10). I wonder if Brittain could play as the right-sided forward (I.e. Markanday's position yesterday) and keep JRC at right-back instead.
The region they come from isn’t blessed with the finest minds. When I worked nearby for 18 months I was staggered by the locals.
JRC and Markanday are different players and would not play the right attacker position in the same way, JRC would not hug the right touchline but would be more inside right but ready to take up the wing position when required.Hmm but Markanday and Dolan are sort of wingers/forwards, I'm not sure JRC has got the attributes for that position in terms of getting down the line, getting up quickly to support the striker, being an out-ball, scoring goals. For me you need to be quick, take players on and ideally have a decent finish in that position.
Brittain seems to have the first 2 of those attributes, but then is it easier to take players on and carry the ball forward when you start off in a defensive position, as opposed to starting on the halfway line with your back to the opposition goal and a defender breathing down your neck. So for me its debatable if Brittain could even play in Markanday's position, but I definitely don't think JRC could, I think it'd make us too defensive and leave Leonard too isolated.
I think its difficult in general for players to move around positions in the modern game, you don't tend to get utility players these days. I think JRC probably could play CM, but not in Szmodics' position, and as I say there's serious competition for the 2 more defensive roles (I forgot Buckley when I mentioned Travis, Tronstad and Wharton).
We all have our own opinions.I'm against moving Rankin-Costello away from the right-back or right wing-back position. He made a couple of last-ditch tackles on Saturday to add further proof that he knows what he is doing defensively. He also knows not only how to get forward, but when to get forward, and he is quite effective at it.
I think he has found his best position, and he has owned that position consistently for nine months or so. Do not break!
And now he might be in some trouble:
Good, what a plonker. It is morons like him who put decent, nice people like me off going to football. And now he might be in some trouble:

To quote some ex president, they are not sending their best men here!
Maybe, but what kinda person is making the “cut your throat” sign towards the opposite fans? It’s clearly an idiot who should be somewhere else.Tbh he's just acting a billy big balls who would no doubt run a mile if confronted by someone his own size. If he'd had a knife on him he'd be insane to do that in full view of cameras.
I'm not convincedTbh he's just acting a billy big balls who would no doubt run a mile if confronted by someone his own size.
Me too and welcome to the board!I'm not convinced
Isn't someone supposed to be observing the crowd through the cameras? If so why didn't they get him thrown out?Maybe, but what kinda person is making the “cut your throat” sign towards the opposite fans? It’s clearly an idiot who should be somewhere else.
