Bit part, small time rivals imo. Unless one lives in or around Hoghton their traditional rivals are supposed to be Blackpool aren't they? It was only our success during the Walker years when their jealousy turned to resentment. Prob didn't help us continually shoving our privileged position back then down their throats in schools, pubs and workplaces.

Inconsequential as far as I am concerned. Like Bolton they would like to be our rivals but we don't take them on.
I can understand your attitude Abs. because you work with a lot of their fans but most of the rest of us just view them with contempt. (I think)
United aren't rivals any more I just hate them much as you hate Liverpool. I'm sure you can understand that.

They'll still be on parachute payments and so will be able to afford him, compensation for the rovers and have plenty left for him to spend on players but effectively it'd be a step down at a crucial time in his career.

He's just got out of div 1. I'd say he was unlikely to want to drop down again even with a big club like Sunderland, particularly if he gets the backing he wants from Venkys.

I went to school in Preston from 1969 to 1976. I’ve always enjoyed beating them but not half as much as beating Burnley . For the size of the town ( now a city ) their attendances are appalling and in my lifetime they’ve always been in Rovers shadow . When at school I got the impression that North End was many Prestonions second favourite team after United , Liverpool and Leeds .

Our history and the success we’ve had makes us a target of hatred for a lot of other Lancashire town teams - they all have a massive inferiority complex as far as the Rovers are concerned
