Darwin, I remember it too,
1969 January 26 middle of the monsoon, running like hell across the tarmac to get to the airport terminal.
Getting in and wanting a beer and having no local currency!!!!!

You realise Waggy, you are in the wettest part of Australia.
When I was last there, the post office in Babinda had measurements on the wall of the amount of rain each year.
If you go inland a bit and north, you come to Mena Creek, good pub and a few touristy things like Paronella Park.
When we first went there in 1978 the postmaster was from near Colne UK.
edit: and they had the head of a taipan in a jar on the bar. It was caught a few days earlier in a cane field. Browned my pants, even though it was dead.

He's used to rain dave. Not so sure about crocs, sharks, cane toads, deadly snakes, box jellyfish and funnel web spiders but after living in rishton they can't be all that terrifying can they?
