I grew up on the middleweights really as those were the big worldwide names then although everyone knew about Ali but the only time I recall seeing him on telly was highlights of Holmes pasting him, a shocking sight.
I doubt i'd have been able to name a top HW back then until Bruno appeared in England then not long after Tyson relit the Heavyweight division again.
Like football though money will ruin it, fights already get made all the time with that in mind rather than finding out who is actually the best.
To be fair to Joshua though even though he now gets paid huge money he went after the belts and big names very early in his career a bit like Iron Mike, so did Fury to a lesser extent which has just proved to be a one off but nevertheless he stepped up.
They had to pay a lot to get that Yank belt holder Martin over here which came off AJs share I think .Could easily have back fired on both but they had the minerals not to choose the easy regular pay days like Wilder.
