Al, I'd had them for years, even had a five computer deal over two years, but of late they'd been stuffing things up. Wanting to charge me when it wasn't due etc etc.
Anyway i'd been reading up about AV and decided Defender was the way to go, and it cost me zilch.
Still got AVG PC Tune Up. That seems to work pretty well

Is that AVG tune up worth having then? They keep offering it to me. Come to think of it last time I renewed I didn't think it was a full year. I'll check next time.

Al, TuneUp can clear a lot of the dross that builds up over time.
I use it alongside Disc Cleanup and Defragging (don't defrag if you have an SSD (solid State drive)).
The other thing I do is to disable those programs I don't use. It doesnt stop you using them it sort of puts them into sleep mode.
Another thing I do is to stop programs opening and sitting in the background when you first switch on. You might never use them, but it slows things down.
You can also use it to find duplicate files which can be handy for getting rid of photos and the like that are duplicated.

AVG have an annoying reminder that wants you to renew about three months before it's due. That's why I ended up giving them the flick, it got so confusing that they ended up charging me for two accounts, when I only had one. They are a bit money hungry.

If you ever think that you have a virus Al why not do what you prob did 50 years ago and scrub your PC down with some Vim or Ajax on a nail brush?:p
