Trying to get of a Bangkok BTS Skytrain to be met by hoards trying to get on first. Plebs also stand in the middle of the doorway. I just walk straight through and they bounce off. Quite fun.

Maybe a bit. More a play on words.

I am old 'clip round the lughole' school knife and fork user by upbringing and clip round the lughole training. As kids we could not start our meal until Mum and Dad had picked up their knife and fork and then had to ask permission and also ask permission to leave the table when finished. Oh for the good old days!
"Please may I leave the table" when finished was drummed into us pre school days.

Different cultures with the eating thing, asking for a knife in a Chinese/oriental restaurant can be insulting, it means the chef has not done his job properly and the customer cant easily eat with the chopsticks. Eating with the mouth open and supping Chinese tea like in wine tasting is also prevalent and is meant to enhance flavour.

Its just that its all fork and spoon here and I have to ask for a knife which they rarely have in the sort of establishments that I choose to dine in...

Good? Sounds ridiculous to me.

"Manners maketh man" Vinjay. It's all tied up with respect, courtesy and discipline. I don't want to sound an old fuddy duddy that those are qualities sadly lacking in today's society imo. Pity cos it still does count in life in general as well as in employment and social standing.

I agree with certain elements of parental discipline but such ridiculous rules go too far. Its not the 1950's and those days of "sitting round the table" are redundant never mind having to wait for parents to start. My political/general views are centrist (another way of putting it might be "all over the place") and I'm more open to compromise than some would think. On the other hand the only government position that would appeal to me would be that of "benevolent dictator" lol. That's exactly how I would run Rovers with a lot of micro managing too. How else could you deal with people like Lee Grooby :D

Did me no harm. I still say please and thank you. I still give the benefit of the doubt. I can still use a knife...when I can find one.

Oh and it was the 1950s and it must have been good training as the excesses of the 60s and 70s did not knock it out of me as in please can I smoke that thank you.

Pay and display parking: particularly the ones where the meter doesn't work when you've eventually walked and found the bugger. Do you then walk back to your car to leave a note in your windscreen or risk it?

I was encouraged to say please and thank you. Which I generally did and still do.

If my Mum attempted to dictate to me at that level though (sitting at tables and permission when to start) it wouldn't have worked. I've got enough issues as it is and dictating to me like that would probably have escalated things sooner. I was a fussy eater (and still am) and she had no luck occasionally attempting to get tough with me on that. As a young kid I never went out of my way to be intentionally difficult and had damn good reasons for being fussy about it. Carrots, peas, etc made me feel sick. Far as I'm concerned that was more than enough justification for refusal. OK that's a separate issue from enforced table manners but they do tie together somewhat.

Is the fine earnings related? Who invented that idea.

Are you serious? Benevolent and micro managers are certainly not terms I would use to describe their regime.

Jack was beyond benevolent obviously and he did dictate to an extent. He chose the managers (the board and players were probably fine with his choices anyway) and clearly had a justified policy on the age of signings. Tony Gale was an exception but he was a free transfer and more of a squad player.

As for micro managing that's how you stop snakes like Agnew slivering through the cracks. Someone told me Williams never really trusted him but felt he could "keep an eye" on him. If that was the case worked well didn't it? If a takeover does happen (and it damn sure won't be easy) first thing they should do is force certain staff (barring players/managers for obvious reasons) to reapply and fire the rest. By "the rest" I mean people like Cheston.

Venkys couldn't be any more distant from the club in terms of micro management. OK there's been financial cutbacks but I don't really see that as micro managing.

The parking meters that don't give change and have time segments designed to rip you off.
Blackburn and Preston both have them.
Blackburn's are prevalent on the streets but Preston, shame on you Preston, have them on the listed eyesore building, why can't you charge for the time spent in the car park instead of forcing customers to over pay just in case they get delayed.

You don't say. ;)
However if you know that you have issues then surely you can conquer them and take satisfaction and gain strength from it? Isn't acceptance of such a major positive step?

I still say this to my parents when we're eating together. Basic respect for your elders. Part of the issues in school are that parents no longer teach respect for adults.

The worst thing as a teacher is a 'millenial' parent.

To be fair some people don't help themslves in getting ripped off via parking meters. Sunday just gone I went to the beach for a walk and parked near the meter which had an 8 strong queue. I laughed out loud as I saw this exiting the car and my companion asked why I was laughing. I spoke loudly so the queue could hear and said I was laughing at the people queuing as it was free parking on a Sunday and it says so on the meter. Seriously can no-one read these days?

People who eat with their mouth open is a real bugbear for me, unfortunately the kids do the same as they haven't been shown properly.

You end up with a whole table of ignorant gets slopping food everywhere. Disgusting.
