I think I would feel better if we had lost

To come back and win only for PNE to capitulate is just so fucking painful

All in the day for supporting Rovers. What a mixture of emotions! Great second half performance, an away win but then missing out on goal difference to TM of all people.
Someone on Twitter has posted that it’s the first time since 2005 that Rovers have come from 2 down!
We’ve had some rotten luck over the last 8 games but 1 point would have been enough. Recall Coventry, PNE and the woodwork!
I would like JDT to stay and rebuild our team. BBD off as is Dack. Send Morton and Thomas back and get a Championship striker and midfielder with steel.
COYB!

The typical bollocks we have become accustomed to.

As soon as it didn't matter any more we came back to win for the first time in the whole fucking season. 😳😬
Better late than never eh?😉

We don't have an option with Morton.

Proud of Rovers, phenomenal second half, and to be honest we were better than them in the first half too, just gave some daft goals away.

But absolutely battered them overall, hit the woodwork what 3 times? Missed some good chances. Superb performance, could have been about 7-1 on another day.

I'm glad we won regardless of Preston's weak capitulation. Great to end the season with a win for the fans who made the long trip, and only finishing outside the play-offs on goal difference is a confidence boost for next season. Although whether we can replace BBD is another question, we're such a different team when he puts a shift in like he did today.

Well done Tony Mowbray too, if it had to be another team pipping us to 6th, I'd have preferred it to be his. Underlines the ridiculousness of not renewing his contract, but JDT has done a great job too.

BBD has confirmed that he’s leaving the club after “a wonderful time at Rovers” but wouldn’t confirm he is off to Spain in his post match interview.

Is Dack away? I wouldn't blame him. He's been treated like shit after what he has done for this club.

I think it's time for him to go Al. After not one but two ruptured cruciates he's not what he was and the club have stood by him over two long injury spells out.

Full time today was a horrible deja vu moment for me mirroring how Rovers missed promotion on the last day of 1980/81 season on GD after winning away (Bristol Rovers) and PNE culpably capitulated to enable Swansea to win 3-1 at Deepdale,
Hordes of Rovers fans were at Eastville that day hoping against hope that PNE would at least battle the opposition.
Seems PNE were equally guilty of similar capitulation today.

Today feels worse
Maybe we just didnt have the expectation or maybe its because now the prize is just so big
In our case it could have been our long term future at stake

The other thing....it was 42years ago!!! Wow

Disappointing to miss out by one point and although it's not healthy to blame things on bad luck, we certainly didn't have the rub of the green when it really mattered. If we keep the core of this young squad and add some (quality) steel and a goalscorer, I'm pretty confident we'll give it an even better go next year. Time for a bit of speculate to accumulate mentality from the owners.

Seventh in the league and 2 decent cup runs is far from the worst season in the club's history, but I can understand people being a bit deflated after 2 season's of generally falling away late on.

Keep the faith, we'll do it next year.

So that's that for another season. One that promised so much for most of it and despite clearing the final hurdle so well was spewed over the final furlong. How shit was our luck that would have seen us walk the play offs if only matches finished on 90 minutes? As for my own opinion a sterling fight back in our final match against fellow promotion hopefuls from 3-1 down at half time to run out 3-4 winners was dream time stuff.
A 7th place finish was just fine for me. Call me unambitious and you will probably be correct but imo this squad is not ready for the Premier League, if we had somehow triumphed through the play offs lots of kids coming through the Academy would be cast aside, BRFC as a club would be humiliated on almost a weekly basis and relegated before the middle of March plus the supporters would have experienced a season from hell. On the other hand I'm sure £150m or so would have come in very useful.
BBD is off, likely Dack and a few others too but that is just the evolution of football clubs. We can quite easily find a left midfielder (in fact we might have one in Edun) but the problem which must be solved in order to do justice for the rest of the squad is to find a decent to good strike force up top. The last time we had one of those was when Danny Graham and Bradley Dack combined to terrorise opposing defences. Certainly freed from wide right duties by DG retiring and Dack rupturing his cruciate Adam Armstrong strode up to the plate magnificently but he was after all a quick and sometime lethal striker and not a true target man.
So on to today's performance at Millwall's Lion's Den. The first half was the stuff of nightmares as Millwall tore into the Rovers from the off and the Rovers capitulated like they believed their season was already a lost cause. Three amateurish mistakes later and the Rovers had let three ridiculous goals in. OK so Adam Whartons excellent strike had brought the Rovers level at 1-1 on 22 minutes but two strikes in two minutes. both created from park football level mistakes saw the Rovers troop in 3-1 down at HT. It was blindingly obvious that changes needed to be made sooner rather than later and the second half kicked off with Brittain and Dolan replacing Travis and Thomas. With JRC replacing Travis in midfield and Dolan filling in the gaps ignored by Thomas up top the Rovers soon looked to be in better shape and to be offering more of a threat and after a little bit of pinball on the 6 yard line JRC found the target. 3-2 and from then on the Rovers were on the front foot. 62 minutes and the ball fell beautifully for BBD to strike his trademark right footed inswinger inside the far post 3-3 and game on. Millwall by this time appeared shell shocked and unable to respond. No doubt the Rovers fans with one eye on the match and the other witnessing Sunderland's demolition of PNE on their iphones and chanting by this time "3-1 and you've fucked it up" wouldn't have gone down too well with the East Enders. Worse was to come as BBD faced with an open goal 0n 86 minutes duly obliged 3-4 and the Rovers following were goading Millwall even more with renditions of West Hams ' blowing bubbles' anthem. Typically Millwall's finest were charging a line of Police horses after the match! I just hope the Rovers faithful got away without too many scrapes.
Credit to Mowbray's Sunderland to follow up a promotion with a place in the play offs. imo he deserves it after doing sterling service as our Manager and having so much input into our Academy lads. Next up it's Luton for them and I for one hope that they can sieze the opportunity to make it all the way to the Prem.

Pears... 6 What was that amateurish mix up all about for Millwall's second? Every top keeper in history would have gone through his own defender to clear that ball.

JRC.... 7 Spent the first half shackled to the right back position but once he replaced Trav in midfield he added much more creativity to the Rovers attacking play. I'd say his future is in the middle.

Carter... 6 Dallying about with the ball instead of 'safety first' in a frenetic opening spell by Millwall started the rot by meekly giving the throw in away from which Millwall scored the opener.

Hyam... 6 Again Dom was found making uncharacteristic errors in his defensive play. Must be galling to see his old team pip us to a play off spot.

Pickering...6 Good and bad play today from Harry.

Travis... 5 What has happened to Trav? Certainly he's as combative as ever but where on earth has his pace and mobility gone? sorry to say that I have him now as the next one to be replaced.

Wharton A... 6 Scored with a cracking shot into the far corner but aware of his recent performances was tightly shackled by Millwall.

Szmodics... 5 Again an all action performance from Sammy but today little came off for him in a performance littered with mistakes.

BBD.... First half 4 second half 8. Hopeless in the first 45 and in the second half just after Clive Tyldesley ridiculed him for a pass which he skewed straight out of play ("is that what it takes to play in La Liga?") he thrashed home one of his special inswingers. Next up he hit the bar, with the rebound (in front of an open goal) spewed by Dolan, before racing in at the far post on 86 minutes to score the winner from Szmodics perfect cross. Signed off on a winning note but be honest Ben, you've ungratefully screwed over the club that paid a lot of money for you.

Hedges.... 5 This lad seems to me to be either hot or cold but more often cold. Today I'd say he was tepid.

Thomson... 4 No way is he good enough to consider signing again. Withdrawn at HT.

Subs
Dolan...6 An appearance littered by good and bad, but he does make things happen with his energy and non stop running.

Brittain... 6 Seems to me that Travis is hindering his appearances as when he is brought on Trav is taken off with JRC moving fwd to his preferred position.

JDT... 5 Shorn of Gallagher's services he sent out an odd team which tbh didn't work very well at all. They seemed sluggish and on the back foot from the off. Credit though for the turnaround after HT.

Referee Craig Pawson... 7 Should have shown a number of yellows to Millwall players to curtail their pathetic cheating diving antics but otherwise governed the game very capably.

Spot on review as always - if i disagree its usually only about a players mark and even then its usually only my 7 to your 6 type of stuff
Thanks for the dedication every game

JDT will most probably be poached in the summer,he has not done bad in his first year here, other clubs will just see his good points.I for one would not mind him being here next season, he may learn from his mistakes something the vastly experienced TM never did.
You might take a look at the final table waggy.😖

Not in my book steve. In 82 it was for automatic promotion, not just a place in the play offs.

An excellent fight back yesterday shows promise for next season.

This season has been a story of “what if”, “what if” and “what if”.

We need to build on this season. Our recruitment has to be spot on and Greg Broughton will be under close scrutiny to see whether he delivers.

It is obvious where we need to focus on. We also need experienced players to work alongside our super crop of talent that has broken through into the first team this season.

Being an optimist I am looking forward to next season. However we also need work behind the scenes with the coaching staff.

Sadly numerous Rovers coaches attached by thugs with bricks and gas cannisters.
