Rovers appallingly withdrew this facility at a days notice at the start of this season.

I have never been to this stadium before and I fully expect our allocation of 1,475 to sell out. This is another new out-of-town new stadium so expect it to be soulless and in the vicinity of the usual sh!te food outlets like Beeny & Franky, Dolmio Pizza and B&Q Burgers.

They are knicknamed the Cobblers as Northampton, and surrounding villages, were the centre of the UK’s shoe making industry. The area still makes high end hand made shoes such as Church’s, Lobb, Barker and Loake. Indeed I only buy Loake; they cost a few quid but you save £££ in the long run - I am still wearing a 7 year old pair of Loakes and they fit like a dream. I am sending a copy of this post to Loake in the hope of a discount.

The other thing the town is famous for is the highest number of sex aids shops in the country per head of population. Indeed the Club shop does a roaring trade in Cobblers branded dildos - The Rovers Store please note - with the rampant rabbit doing somewhat well. Perhaps Rovers could have a ‘Rampant Dack’ or ‘Harry Chapman Furry Handcuffs’ for our lady fans. I will suggest this on my next visit, would anyone care to record the exchange for YouTube?

There most famous fan is some bloke called Shaquille O’Neal who played something called NBA. I have never heard of him and can someone please explain why he has a lady’s name.

I attach a photo of Max for completeness. As for the score I am putting 50p on a Rovers 3-0 win.

Northampton's main claim to fame was going from the old 4th Divison to the old 1st Division and back again in successive seasons during the 60's!

En route to this 'achievement' and after being promoted from the 2nd the season before they were relegated from the old 1st Div in '65 along with the Rovers. We ended bottom with what I seem to rem was a record low points total of 20 and a full 13 points behind 2nd bottom Northampton. Quite remarkably when we weren't losing we did well in some quite impressive fixtures. I rem wishing every club's name began with 'N' as we thumped NUFC 4-0, Nottm Forest 5-0 and Northampton Town 6-1! Unfortunately two dreadful runs of results during the season saw us relegated. Jeff Astle scoring the only goal at Ewood v West Brom that saw us down with fully six games still to play.
Read and weep. https://www.11v11.com/teams/blackburn-rovers/tab/matches/season/1966/

Oh btw of much less importance England won the World Cup 2 months later!

Whow Drog; 13 losses and one win in the last 14 games. It must have been depressing watching that!!

Some good results in the Cup helped ease the pain..... but not much. We got beaten in the quarter finals 1-2 at Ewood by Sheff Wed. * but until then there was fanciful talk of us being the first club to win the FA Cup and be relegated in the same season. We managed to achieve half of that feat.:(

*btw I was standing by the DE/Riverside corner flag that day. It was chucking it down and so I was virtually on my own at the front when Sheff Wed were awarded a corner kick and I managed to see myself on telly afterwards! Quite a thrill for a kid back then when televised football was in it's infancy.

Just to add steve and maybe explain the opening set of poor results. There was a polio epidemic in Blackburn which began on 2/8/65 and resulted in severe disruption to the season. Not sure of the real facts but I seem to rem a delayed start to that season with perhaps some home fixtures being switched to become away ones. Maybe someone else will post the correct story. Whatever happened it meant that the Rovers were stranded and well adrift at the bottom of the table before a ball had even been kicked at Ewood Park that season.

Nice one BB.

Hope that isn't the main club car park in the photo :)
It's not much bigger than that. If you are driving there you can park right across from the away end for 3 quid I think, look on google maps and you will see a large brown patch, that is where to park. There are about four or five big places to eat next to the cinema, even a KFC if you fancy it. You can take either J16 or J15a and dual carriage way right to the game, the road works from the M6 to J16 have all but gone at last but watch out for the new speed camera's they are active. The ground is still half completed and the away end is compact but should be fun.

It is a rugby town so don't expect a sell out :-( maybe 4000 locals.

Can't wait for this one.

Another excellent review BB . Thanks ! Perhaps you could publish a book of them all at the end of this glorious ( I hope ) season

I remember watching the highlights of Rovers v Northampton on the telly in 1965/66 , the season the Rovers & the Cobblers got relegated . Rovers got hammered I think ( just checked 6-1 defeat - at Ewood :worried: ) I'm sure the Cobblers were playing in a Burnley type kit . Looked the same on a black and white telly , but I think it was burgundy ( can't say the c word) shirts with white sleeves .

I was so inspired by the Rovers strip , once they'd got relegated. I started going to Ewood ( with Dad and big brother - Dad a Burnley fan) and saw my first game against Crystal Palace 2-1 win in the 66/67 season. Northampton Town brings back good memories in an odd sort of way

Wow - the attendance for the aforementioned game against Northampton , just 10,685

Never realised Northampton had played in the top flight let alone climbing up the way they so that's interesting, impressive effort in any era that.

Unbelievablely low attendances . I guess this was down to the polio , poor league position and the continuing fall out from the 1960 “ dustbin “ final as the Wolves v Rovers game was called in certain quarters .

Preview of course Drog , how careless of me . Suffice to say we are blessed with excellent away previews and home reviews ; and now we’ve got BEB too !
