I'll never understand why they named that steel monstrosity stuck in the middle of what was a grimy industrial town after Alfred Wainright. Fair emough make a tribute ... and there is a decent if modest one on the top of the Yellow Hills but not that bloody thing.
Mind you I wouldn't have called it Barbara Castle Way either after how she destroyed Blackburn so comprehensively. I honestly cannot think of a greater betrayal of her electorate and their predominantly Labour principles than to oversee most of Blackburn's industry up sticks and leave whilst at the same time condoning the import of countless thousands of people from a totally alien culture in order to keep the wages of her thousands of supporters in the town down at subsistence levels. People thought it was trendy back then to be right on liberals but surely they wouldn't slavishly vote Labour now if they could go back in time ..... or would they be that stupidly naive again? On reflection I believe the answer is probably YES as some still regard Thatcher as the biggest evil.
