If you don't have a united party, you're dead in the water.

Sunak will be gone this year one way or the other. He'd be better off walking away now than being humiliated in an election or by his own party.

Sunak will be in the U$A soon enough.
That's what they all do. Even if they don't make it. Aren't the Milibands over there doing something or other?

I can't blame them for capitalising. A Prime Minister's wage, though more handsome than anything most of us could dream of, is quite modest and time-limited compared to the fame they receive. The real financial winner is what they can get thereafter.

I would be amazed if Sunak is the leader of the Tories for the next general election. The local elections are pending, and it's difficult to imagine anything other than the Tories getting panned.

The latest YouGov poll paints a bleak picture for them. Interestingly, no seats for Reform?

I think you may see a number of Tories defect to Reform which should boost their seats and particularly if Farage comes back. The ones who will be out on their ear will feel that Reform is the last chance saloon for their parliamentary careers.

In reply to Gooz our first past the post electoral system is to blame for that. I remember UKIP getting six million votes but no seat. The main two parties will never change this system.

Why do so many mps turn out to have dodgy perversions?
If somebody has the power to do something, and those that don't have that power want something, then you've got a recipe for a dodgy situation right there. You can take that from lowly British politicians with basic sleaze and low-level financial corruption, right up to Putin and Kim Jong-un with state-sanctioned murders and sex slave girls (Jong-un allegedly has a fun girl brigade or something).

There's probably a narcissism that comes with being a politician. They probably feel they have more power than the rest of us, and there's a reason why the term career politician has come to the for in recent decades. There's a vanity to it.

Three interesting comments gleaned from the press last week but the middle one is most telling imo.

In the light of hamza bombing in popularity in scorland and Sunak leading the tories to a devastating defeat I hear lots of wise old sages giving their opinions on tv. What is never discussed is the colour of their skin and their religion. Lots of people will simply not vote for them. Right or wrong it's a situation probably borne out of ignorance in many cases but we see similar with the rovers fans. Lots of supporters have dropped off and plenty only go to away matches. Many Brfc fans don't even know the difference between Hindus and Muslims and probably don't even care.
The old adage "birds of a feather stick together" applies and most definitely in the voting booth where no one has to suffer the frequent accusations of racism.

The loony left of the old socialist workers party were out campaigning in Settle of all places yesterday. I did of course pass my views verbally.
