Rovers away followings this season

Looking at where we're going to be playing and that many supporters are committing to following us away but not at home, what's the view regarding how many fans will watch us at the likes of Bury and Rochdale? Will they cope?

Interesting thread Darrener. The capacity for Away grounds at the following 3 clubs is:

Bury 2000
Fleetwood 831
Rochdale 3650

We will sell out at all three which is why Rovers brought in the 1875 Club membership scheme.

I will be at all three. If I have problems with Fleetwood tickets I have other sources.

And Oldham is 3750 which will be another sell out.

Big problems may ensue I guess.
I went to watch Bury at Fleetwood year before last and drove past Spotland yesterday and thought 'it ain't gonna be like it used to be'. Last time we were here it was pay on the door and we used to travel in thousands to Bury, Rochdale, Oldham, Shrewsbury. Fucking Fleetwood in a league match!?

Whilst we deserve little credit for our situation you still have to hand plenty to Fleetwood. Just good money after bad mind... imo.

As always with Rovers away followings will fluctuate according to form / mood / price. We'll only sell out or close to it big capacity away fixtures if things are going well.

Oldham i'm looking forward to renewing an old rivalry. Rochdale, Bury i've never been so they're on the cards.

IMG_0095.JPG Shrewsbury away capacity is 1796. The town is lovely, decent pubs and just right for a weekend away on the lash.

I have no doubt we will sell out for Oldham, Rochdale, Bury and Fleetwood.

When you go to Rochdale you must try the chippy on the away fans side off the ground next to the opposition turnstiles. The Rag Pudding and chips are a must:

"Rag pudding (also known as Rag pie) is a savoury dish consisting of minced meat and onions wrapped in a suet pastry, which is then cooked in a cheesecloth.[1][2][3] The dish was invented during the 19th century in Oldham, a former mill town in Lancashire,[1] previously at the centre of England's cotton industry.[3] Rag pudding pre-dates ceramic basins and plastic boiling bags in cookery, and so the cotton or muslin rag cloths common in Oldham were used in the dish's preparation.[2] Rag pudding is similar in composition and preparation to steak and kidney pudding,[2] and may be purchased from traditional local butcher's shops in South East Lancashire.[1]"

Doubt they sell that at Old Trafford :D

Fleetwood isn't the key example of Venkys' incompetence for me as there's also highly extenuating circumstances behind their presence in this division. Granted not incompetence in their case but whatever Sky think (chose this game though it may also be due to special focus on L1 that weekend) I reckon some of the other clubs mentioned above are more obvious examples. Clubs that have played at this level and L2 for years and never really achieved much or shown any imagination. I feel more annoyance at playing them.

Thanks for the picture of the chips forgot what they looked like.

Fleetwood have done a cracking job. A decent academy set up as well where they are clear that it is a feeder to bigger clubs with the fees received being reinvested into the Club.

Credit to any board that knows their limits and sets out with a properly thought out and attainable business plan. So many clubs are run by star struck wannabees.

Possibly these auditors have finally got through to Venkys on that score and presented them with a viable business plan that has the objective of getting the club with a lower cost base in decent annual financial shape and ready to sell !!!

The continuing agency involvements, Balaji Raos whims and others making money out of it regularly will no doubt soon put paid to all that though.

Doncaster first opponents at home stands out more to me than Fleetwood. I remember laughing at Doncaster in 1998 though to be fair didn't know what had gone on there at that time. This feels a bit like some sort of karmatic punishment for that lol.

From Wiki.....
"During the early 1990s, Ken Richardson, who was later described by detectives as "the type that would trample a two-year-old child to pick up a 2p bit",[13] took over as the majority shareholder of the club. He ploughed a lot of money into Doncaster Rovers with one thing on his mind, a new stadium. When he was refused a new stadium by the council he soon lost interest. Richardson hired three men to torch Belle Vue and planned to sell the ground to developers. The attempt put Richardson in jail for four years, ruined Belle Vue and Rovers were edging closer to relegation. In 1998 Rovers dropped out of the league with a βˆ’83 goal difference. He withdrew his financial backing and as a result the club was subject to an administration order. The better players left to ease some of the financial burden but unfortunately, the players who were left at Rovers were just not up to the task. The fans blamed Richardson for effectively destroying Rovers and even a funeral was held at Belle Vue on the last game of the 1997/98 season complete with coffin along Carr House Road. Just weeks after Rovers were relegated, Richardson was found guilty of trying to set fire to the Rovers ground, apparently hoping to pay off the club's debts with the insurance money."

I trust his friends and family would have forced Donny's 'Abbey equivalent' to hand over his belt, tie and shoelaces for a year or two!

May well have worked too (beyond suspicions) had one of the arsonists hired not left his mobile phone behind. Have to say the anaology about the 2p bit would fit perfectly for many people who have been (and in some cases still are) involved with our Rovers.

Council didn't seem very helpful. Well they got there in the end anyway presumably funded by Ryan (?) or whatever his name was with the stadium.

The Bradford away game on 19th August should be a challenge to get tickets for as we only get 1840 tickets. It will be a popular away game.

Re Clayton Street chippy I have never ever been to Great Harwood.
