Rovers away followings this season

I'll be definitely going to Shrewsbury on the train. As BB says, a lovely town with plenty of pubs. Been on Gay Meadow but not the new ground. Train wise, it's Preston to Crewe then change for Shrewsbury another 30 mins away.

I didn't realise it was that quick from Crewe. I may go by train or even make a weekend of it. Must have a look for a pub with rooms.

Don't most towns have plenty of pubs even with all the closure rates?

I would imagine they do but those in Shrewsbury look to be quite nice and not the sort where you may think, bloody hell, I'm not going in there.
Maybe a few have had their decor replaced since the 70's unlike most elsewhere. Typically there's 2 types of pubs...shabby or pretentious. Sounds like the latter applies there mostly.

Not sure where you're going with this. Shrewsbury is a historic market town with an attractive town centre and several black and white timbered buildings amidst the curving River Severn. The point I am trying to make is that it's a pleasant sort of place, there are good pubs as well as eateries. It's the sort of place that would make an ideal day out watching the Rovers.

Last time I went in there, it was a Dingle running it. Was a few years ago, though.[/QUOTE]

'Sweaty'. aka Mr Memory. I might be wrong but imo when his Dad was frying and he was waiting on was when it was at it's best. People drove there from miles around.
