Rovers v ‘Big City’ Birmingham in the FA Cup

I think cost cutting must lead to fewer stewards. Plus stopping some dickhead vaulting a low wall and running across the pitch is well nigh impossible.

I’m reading quite a few comments that people think that Kaminski is to blame for both of their goals. I can agree that on the first one he could have done better but the second one?

He could have done better and certainly with the first but the real culprit (both times) I think was Morton.

Well what a pointless exercise in a now pointless and devalued competition. Depending on the draw tomorrow not pitting either of us against a proper Big Club and despite the wild euphoria by Birmingham players and supporters following the equaliser I'd imagine both clubs would have been happy to lose this match. I know that I would.
The manner of our failure to put Brum to the sword and progress to the next round was the stuff of nightmares. Tyler Morton's faltering form was largely responsible for that failure as his dreadful square pass in deep midfield was easily cut out by Gary Garner (Craig's brother) who fed new signing Reda Khadra to fire a stinging shot low to Kaminsky's right hand side. Kaminsky succeeded only in palming the ball into the net despite getting what should have been a strong hand on the ball. Just 3 mins on the clock and we are behind! Giving early goals away is a rather worrying trend of late which quickly needs arresting. Goals either side of half time accompanied by some decent chances for both teams but particularly wasteful finishing by the Rovers was the story of the match until the 4th official raised the board to show 5 minutes extra time when almost immediately James who had replaced Chong just a minute earlier popped up to score the equaliser. Maybe the Rovers excuse is that they hadn't been able to reorganise in such a short time but tbh the midfield and defence were all over the place allowing James all the time in the world to stride forward and pick his spot. What was going on I've no idea as numbers should have been behind the ball at that time and not spectating on events from the wrong side of the ball. Again I doubt Morton and Kaminsky will want to see the replay of that goal.
Credit to Brum for bringing 4000 supporters but why they came I'm not sure, I do doubt though that anything close to that number of Rovers die hards will feel the need to make the return trek down to St Andrews on Tuesday evening.

Kaminsky... 5 A few decent saves but he won't be happy with his part in both Brum's goals.

JRC...... 8 Sponsor's and my MoM despite picking up an unnecessary yellow in the first half which had him treading on egg shells for the rest of the match. I don't want to see natural aggression in a footballer tamed but it was a silly foul and there is a time and a place for such. Good to see his confidence returning after his injury setback and subsequent loss of form and an assist and a goal was just reward.

Carter... 6 Decent performance as he and Wharton were on occasion given a stern test by old foe Jutkiewicz and old pal Khadra.

Wharton.... 6 See above. Could have done better for Brum's first as he failed to get into position to block Khadra's shot.

Pickering... 5 A quiet game imo.

Morton.... 4 Gave the ball away for the first goal away and numerous times after that. He has quality that's for sure but he looks to me like he needs a rest and why JDT took Buckley off and left Morton on to see the game out will take some explaining to me.

Buckley... 6 Another player like JDT who lost his way a little but is now returning to form.

Dack.... 7 Never the fastest player but his brain is a yard quicker than anyone else at this level. Just about all our creativity came through him and he was on hand to tap the ball home after BBD had fluffed his lines when following in from JRC's fiercely struck shot.

Hedges... 4 Subbed at HT which is enough comment.

BBD.... 5 Poor again and not surprisingly appears distracted by off field events and no doubt advice from his agent not to get hurt. Fluffed chances that he'd have taken last season.

Gallagher.... 4 Poor again. Can we not interest Villareal in a BOGOF deal?

Subs

Dolan (45 Hedges) 7 His energy and enthusiasm has a notable effect when he appears. Should have had an assist but for an awful miss by BBD.

Travis (Buckley 75) 6Obviously sent on by JDT to stifle Brums midfield. The switch might have worked better if he'd come on for Morton.

Szmodics (Dack 87) N/A

Vale (Gallagher 93) N/A

JDT.... 5 Again sent out a team who weren't in the wide awake club from the first whistle and that sloppy passing across the field saw us go 1 down inside 3 minutes. Players must be told there is no shame in putting their foot through the ball when the occasion demands and this type of passing will create problems as the notorious Ewood pitch deteriorates through the crass managerial stupidity of training on it! Mowbray learned his lesson not to play / train unnecessarily on Ewood in the middle of winter and it seems people at the top have short memories. Grass is now dormant ffs and will not repair until T200 passes!

Referee Keith Stroud 6 A little inconsistent in handing his cautions out but otherwise not a bad day for him. Has made a mountain out of a molehill by pandering to the whining of a highly paid player which will no doubt now get the Club a fine or worse.
