All good points Al. What HAS happened to Trav? Whatever it is the entire midfield appears disjointed. Sure Morton has class, but why have Travis and Buckley fallen so far back when partnered with him? Versus Burnley and PNE the midfield have been completely out fought, out classed and out numbered. OK so Mola is looking like a fish on a bicycle in the Championship and him replacing the injured Brittain so early left the midfield totally disjointed, they were lethargic, slow of thought, devoid of any ideas and overall played like total strangers. Yet again the defenders passing to and fro across the back for long spells gave PNE the opportunity to totally mark up the midfield and effectively meaning the only supply to the forwards was long hanging balls which gave our diminutive forwards little to no chance of doing anything constructive against the giants of Preston. Make no mistake PNE are a huge outfit.
I can guess the team talk for North End.... there wouldn't have been one! All Ryan Lowe had to do was sit his team down to watch constant re-runs of the Burnley match and appoint Ched Evans to replace Ashley Barnes as the bruiser up top. It's now official and no longer a secret..... BRFC are a soft touch who can easily be bullied and intimidated and the entire division will know it too. I don't know who are the 2 or 3 JDT will be looking to bring in in January but they need to be real hard bastards who won't be rolled over easily!
Kaminsky.... 5 Goaled OK but still persists in playing dangerous out balls to tightly marked teammates.
Brittain ..N/A Crocked early doors and a casualty of Preston's rough house, intimidatory tactics.
Carter... 6 Improved defensively after a shaky start and created our only goal with a great run.
Hyam.... 4 Not a good performance.
Wharton... 5 I could feel his anger at getting a hammering from a local rival for the second game in a row, pity more of the squad aren't from these parts.
Travis... 3 Dreadful performance. What has JDT done to our player?
Morton.. 5 Classy but lightweight 19 year old....... the qualifications that you want least against a team of rough house giants in a local derby.
Hedges.... 4 Not at the races today.
Szmodics.... 3 No influence on proceedings.
Brereton.... 3 Seemingly disinterested in standing up to PNE's intimidation.
Dack.... 4 Poor performance but still the strikers instincts to be Johnny in the right spot to score. Why he insists in dropping deep so often to play behind the midfield two and take the ball off the defenders I have no idea.
Subs
Mola... (Brittain 8 mins) 3 Awful showing. What is his position? He seems unaware of what to do and where to go (no wisecracks plz) on the pitch.
Dolan ... (Szmodics 57) 7 The one bright spark prepared to put a shift in and the only player in blue and white to cause the PNE defenders problems.
Gallagher... (BBD 58) 6 Put himself about as we needed someone to do but caught offside too often.
Manager JDT... obviously a slow learner after the lessons of Turf Moor. Sent out a woefully unprepared bunch of lightweights to do a man's job. Somehow he needs to study how Mowbray got such a great tune out of Travis and Buckley. Why Mowbray played the patient possession game / slow build up 3 years ago and why he then abandoned it in favour of a higher tempo passing / pressing game.
Ref Josh Smith 3 I've done a search and on only one occasion did I give this chap a half decent score. My most telling comment was that this chap should not be refereeing in the Championship and today's match was compelling evidence of this. Work this one out. possession 65:35 for the Rovers yet there were 12 fouls given against the Rovers and only 4 against PNE.
Still it's a fact the pussyfoot Rovers would have lost with two refs in charge.
