Some great attacking play being let down by careless individual errors. Leonard being the biggest culprit.

Worst I've felt after a game so far this season. We looked knackered after the first 20 minutes. Perhaps we came out of the traps too quickly for our own good. Still, we should have put a couple of those early chances away and it cost us a result. Same old story of missed chances.

Pears
Felt as though he could have done better with Sunderland's second goal. Good at passing out from the back, but I feel it's only a matter of time before Wahlstedt gets the nod.

Brittain
Keeping Rankin-Costello out of the side, perhaps with a bit of bias that he was bought by the current management team for that position. Probably our best player, so Man of the Match for me.

Carter
At fault for Sunderland's third and the nail in our coffin. He is otherwise becoming a very good defender for us.

Hyam
Quiet. Ventured forward once in the first-half, but nothing much else of note.

Pickering
Had quite a good game and kept Ba at bay. Shame he couldn't score with a nicely hit shot late on.

Wharton
His mistake in midfield ultimately led to Sunderland's second. He does this a good two or three times each game. However, he picks out passes beautifully like nobody else in the squad can. Just needs to learn. Starting to repeat myself.

Travis
As always, lots of effort, and got around the pitch well, but a yellow card so early in the game is silly. We were lost in midfield when he went off.

Hedges
A bit naive to give away that penalty. After looking like a world-beater in the first twenty minutes, he didn't do much thereafter.

Moran
Lovely touches on the ball, and probably one of his better games. Should have scored in the first half, but I think he's starting to get into the way we play.

Szmodics
A bit off his game today. Some wayward passes that set Sunderland on a counter-attack. Should have scored.

Leonard
Never seemed to get a clean shot away, but pleased for him to score, even if it was a scuffed header of sorts. He's not the biggest unit, but he seems to find a way to be somewhat effective as the lone striker.

As for the subs...

Dolan
Utter garbage. Gave away simple passes.

Garrett
Poor with wayward passes and dallying on the ball. Seemed to give up by injury time which doesn't bode well.

Markanday
Spritely, and unlucky to not score when he hit the post. Probably the only substitution that made a difference.

Rankin-Costello
Awful. Played two passes out of play with nobody anywhere near them. Silly challenge on Clarke to earn a booking.

Telalovic
Bustled their defence, but didn't have enough time to get into it.

Did I miss anybody?

Overall, I just couldn't believe how Sunderland managed to get ahead after our first twenty minutes of excellent play. We never really recovered from that, and I think it truly knocked the stuffing out of us. If we play out of our skins for 20 minutes and still aren't ahead, and then get sucker-punched, it has to take its toll on the players, mentally. My only criticism of Tomasson is to remember that the game is 90 minutes long, not 20 minutes long. I feel like we undid ourselves today. Jack Clarke is a very good player, but Sunderland are otherwise an average side that capitalised on our physical and mental tiredness. Fair play to the much-maligned Mowbray, but this defeat sucks.

The first 30 mins were some of the best football played by Rovers for years. Then the inevitable came: a soft penalty, the ball given away for their second, subs that made us worse, a suicide pass for their third.

We fell apart. Sunderland could have 6, 7 or 8 at the end. Wharton was dreadful. Dolan looks like he has spent all his time on the weights and has forgotten how to play football.

A very bad night. JDT needs to stop them trying to walk the ball into the net and to have a shot instead.
