It is pretty meaningless in terms of numbers. We have processes to deal with illegal immigrants. All our services are underfunded due to this incompetent government. Looks more like xenophobic propaganda to stir up right wing support prior to the Brexit vote.

It's funny how this is happening in the run up to the second referendum decision. Remember how the jungle in Coquelles was on the news everyday in the run up to the Brexit vote but disappeared almost immediately after?

#jim mk2 - if the UK is the 'xenophobic' wasteland described in your posts of woe, and the grass is so green over the Channel, then why are so many economic migrants desperate enough to risk their own lives, and that of their children, that they would abandon the social paradise of the EU to get to the UK? You should consider travelling from the Ribble Valley to the expanding number of launching points, in France and Belgium, to explain the situation as you see it to those huddled masses - surely saving them from a life of economic misery in England, perhaps helping to save a few lives in to the bargain, and sparing 'little England' from from your constant bleating and negativity.

That is key. As I said when the first wave left Libya and ended up in Italy years ago. They should have been towed back to the coast of Libya left on the beach with a few pallets of corned beef / spam, bottled water, fully charged phones and left watching as the rescue ship sank their boats 300 yards off shore. They'd have phoned home telling their mates and kin that they had failed were stony broke and countless thousand men, women and children would have been discouraged from following. 18000 of whom would be alive today instead of feeding the fish as a direct result of Merkal encouraging them to make the trip. Western Europe's politicians have let their people down, have the blood on their hands and been entirely responsible for thousand upon thousand of African deaths, and I have no idea why! I would like some of them to publicly explain the motivation for their actions for sure.

The same thing is happening on our coastline now! Politicians etc need to learn from the lessons of recent history. A firm refusal / hard line and blocked attempts to enter this country illegally will deter many more from attempting it. Success will simply encourage more and more. The UK attraction? English language, NHS, Benefits and a strong islamic infrastructure.

Some stupid yoghurt knitter from Kent on the TV this morning (why aren't people invited on to give the majority view?) described them as refugees! They are NOT refugees ffs! They are economic migrants! 99% of whom will be on the take and will have absolutely nothing to offer this nation. Silly cow also revealed that they are considered priority for housing! wtf? What about our own who like as not will have paid taxes and contributed to the nation at some point?

It’s truly depressing and for this country deeply depressing . Whilst the EU has seen increasing support for peripheral far right groups in many member states , in the UK we’ve gone the other way .

A nasty far left racist mainstream political party , recognised as such within its own membership , got a depressing 42% of the votes cast at the last general election . Anti- Semites have always had a firm foothold on the left , but they’ve never headed up and controlled the Labour party from root to branch as they do now
