Rovers one off the line, Carter shoots wide from the follow up and a minute later hull scores again. Must say I don't know why Connolly was on their bench he's created havoc since he came on.

Game was practically over with the red. You can defend with 10 men for 30 mins, 45 if you're very disciplined. Valiant effort from Rovers but the stats on teams who've won/drawn with 10 men for 70 mins (including injury time) would be interesting. I bet its about 1%.

One of those defeats where I don't feel disappointed in the team. Pickering's red card can't be argued with, but it was Hull City's blessing in the end.

Player Ratings

Pears

Superb throughout. Can't be faulted for the two goals conceded. Kept us in it with a few great saves. I think Wahlstedt has his work cut out to get into the starting XI.

Rankin-Costello
Some poor finishing when he should have done better with one or two of them. Still, he is good for the position he plays, and the role required. He gets into good positions in the attacking third.

Carter
Thought he had a poor first half by giving the ball away needlessly and making poor choices. Improved as the game wore on.

Hyam
I thought he was generally poor against Delap. He was outdone, particularly over the top, on a number of occasions. I saw him holding the back of his thigh a couple of times during one of Hull City's corners. Is he carrying a minor injury, perhaps?

Pickering
There have been too many times where he is susceptible to a ball over the top. The Millwall debacle in the final game last season was one, and I've felt the same once or twice this season. There is something wrong with his aerial judgment. It cost him and the team.

Travis
He seemed knackered after 50 minutes or so. I don't know if he actually is, or if it's just his demeanour. It doesn't instill confidence in me for our main defensive midfielder. He was generally good, though.

A Wharton
Played some nice passes in tight situations, as usual. Think he was witheld somewhat when we went down to ten men.

Szmodics
Got dragged too deep after going down to ten men. He mucks in and does things that he's perhaps not an expert at. He was extremely pissed off at being substituted.

Dolan
Foiled a couple of our good attacking plays before being substituted. I think he needs a mini break from the starting XI. Just reset, do something from the bench, and go again.

Hedges
He has really started to show quality in the last year or so. I think he has to be one of the first names on the team sheet, and it's up to Markanday and Dolan to dislodge him with cameos.

Leonard
He showed good strength, and he is somebody that can lead the line in spite of his slightly small height. As against Rotherham United, however, he just didn't get much of a look-in.

For the substitues...

Brittain
I think he is starting to make a case for the right-back position. He rarely puts a foot wrong, and although he blazed a terrible cross over everybody's head late on, he's not too bad at getting forward. The question is whether or not there is a place further forward for the superior Rankin-Costello.

Gallagher
Excellent when he came on. Scored a very nice goal and, like Szmodics, is prepared to muck in for defensive duties.

Ennis
Very good, and is adept at holding up the ball and letting the rest of the team push up. Should have scored. A bit concerned that he's not quite fully fit, yet, but he looks like a top catch for the club.

I'm disappointed to have our first defeat on the board. I'm not disappointed with the performance or, perhaps more accurately, the determination of the team to try to get something. I think we were unlucky in the end. There is a lot of hope in this team, and Tomasson has done wonders with the stretched squad that he has. Just imagine a few more senior players in the building.

Brittain is our best full back, Why don't we play him? Costello is wasted in his own half.

Yeah agreeing with this more and more. JRC unfortunately hasn't yet started this season like he finished the old one, whilst Brittain is looking sharp to me.

Although I assume we'll be needing both for a while as will Pickering get a 3 match suspension?

What a fantastic team performance but as is often the case with 10man teams that last 15/20mins are the killer

I thought Gally was lucky to stay on - it looked like a stamp to me - and if we hadnt been down to ten already it might have been treated differently

Good to meet ODB but my Riverside record is appalling - Trellborg and now this!!!
Proper gutted......just coming to terms with it......I bet if the Hull fans are honest.....they will admit they were lucky 11 v 11 and we would have murdered them

I left the Rotherham game thinking two points lost and I left today thinking three points spewed.

Our two centre backs of Hyam and Carter were poor. The sending off was poor from Pickering. Travis was decent and Gallagher was excellent when he came on. JRC was quiet again but I do like the look of Ennis.

It was noticeable that JDT blanked Pickering as he walked off. He was clearly angry.

By the way, since I predicted 2-1 to Hull City when you naive suckers were gunning for a Rovers win at a canter, I'm sat here wondering what I win. Do I get the keys to the message board or something similarly valuable? A tenner perhaps?

Just done a quick count and there looks like there's going to be fewer home fans on than the W Brom game and they won't bring as many, so looking at a crowd of between 13,500 and 14,000 I think.

COYB
Pretty Poor figures to be honest but I guess 12 years of suffering will do that to any crowd.

Once we got shut of Dastardly and Muttley and with the exception of the Lambert and Coyle embarrassments it's been 10 good years imo.
