The nations biggest under achievers

Old Darwen Blue

Prediction Champion 2021 & 2022
Half time 0-0 although but for terrible finishing by them we should be 2-0 down. Where has the devastating one touch fast attacking football gone? This is dire and had better improve. We are making them look like Chelsea.

One thing I do know is that crisene isn't up to playing at this level.

How stupid does tronsted have to be by wasting our own time and getting booked at the same time?

Great match winning save by John ruddy to deny Telalovic who should have scored tbh from our best chance of the night.
Big hole in creativity in the middle of the park, but then there would be wouldn't there?

Two poor teams.

Well, thats as bad as Ive seen us play in a long time. Really concerning.

We looked clueless throughout. Im not sure what the plan was, if we even had one. We've went from all the possession and doing nothing with it to having none of the possession and doing nothing with it.

We lumped it forward to Gallagher and it was clear that wasnt working very quickly, but kept doing it and then the ideas ran out.

Probably more worrying than the total lack of a plan up front was that we didnt even look solid defensively and only by Brums virtue of missing clear chances, the game would have been lost at half time. Brittain especially looked a defensive liability yet again, and Christene was no better.

I'm all for being pragmatic but to wholly change our style to something frankly worse is crazy. Surely being pragmatic also means you change it up when it isnt working and from start to finish we had no clear plan.

Given that was basically our strongest team, against a Brum side on a poor run with 7 changes, the players and the manager need to really take a look at themselves. I honestly think a draw would have been a poor result, to lose it and deservedly so as well, its seriously worrying in relation to our survival chances.

MOTM for me was probably McFadzean, but it was pick of a poor bunch.

That was awful. You could tell we were going for the draw, and in doing so, created so little, and yet gave away so many chances. We could have easily lost 6-0 if not for lady luck, who also didn't shine on us at the death (our only trump card).

That won't help ticket sales for the Preston game. We will have to see what Eustace and this lot are made of. Expecting another tough game on the back foot.

To me thats what can go wrong when you try to merge 2 styles.

Eustace said he wants to keep the slick passing JDT embedded into the players, but mix it up with some long ball. That doesn't work for me at the professional level. Players need total mental clarity in what they should be doing in any given situation. Pick one gameplan and do it every time in the match, until players become comfortable at it.

That's why I never agreed with the "JDT's style is fine but not when it gets us into trouble" sentiment. If you say to players "do what best fits the situation" in the modern game where they're being closed down like greyhounds are coming after them, and they've got about 1.25 seconds to decide what to do with possession, they won't do anything of use. The agreed approach needs to be drilled into their subconscious until its almost done without thinking.

Tonight we looked riddled with uncertainty every time we had possesion, and so ended up doing a poor version of JDT's passing mixed with a poor version of Big Sam's long ball.
