Things That Are So True These Days

It's what happens when you do everything for your kids, take the pads of them and expel them to the great outdoors for a year or two

Indeed so Steve. And so much more useful than sending, shall we say the less bright bulbs on the Christmas tree, off to some tin pot University (in name only) to study party planning / media studies etc and all the while incurring stupid debt. Billy Bliar's crazy vision of Uni for all was born from A. stupidity and B. the need to be looked on as the PM who drastically reduced teenage unemployment! All he did in effect was postpone it!
Whats the point in giving everybody a uni education? About as pointless as making available places for all school leaving boys in a Football club academy!
Far better to marry National service with technical training in various skills and after 2 years with 40k in the bank and a skill than come out of uni with a 50k debt. The difference in cost effectively being a house! The sooner this is implemented the better. By implementing self discipline a sense of duty and a valid skill set before they are 18 we would then truly be doing the best for our children. Tony Blair has wasted too many lives already.

This nails it...... https://www.telegraph.co.uk/educati...ybody.-Young-people-have-been-sold-a-lie.html

The expansion of the University sector is the biggest scandal since PPI . What is it ? 50% of youngsters now going to University and coming out with debts of £50,000 , many with first class Mickey Mouse degrees . As Steve and Gordon have said, a bit of community/national service with technical training would be a much better career path for many of these youngsters.

The whole post 18 education system needs dismantling and many of the leftie /EU fundamentalist lecturers , brain washing their students with left wing, EU claptrap need kicking out . See what they can earn in the real world .

The silly ( thick?) students were recently supporting a strike by these same middle class lecturers about a £10,000 per year pension loss . A strike that caused them to miss out on the lectures and the learning ( however questionable ) they've gone into huge amounts of debt for. I guess they needn't worry because that's the debt Comrade Corbyn has pledged to pay back for them - or something like that:joy:

It costs around £250,000 to buy a £10,000 a year pension ( no wonder the University pension fund is billions in deficit ) The silly students need to get financially savvy and realise that they're the ones funding this pension largesse and once they graduate with their valueless degrees , most are unlikely to earn anywhere near the type of pensions these middle class lecturers took for granted .

Most definitely. Kids should get a choice at 14, stay on to do GCSEs, or do a 2 year apprenticeship in a trade. If I'd had my time again, I would never have gone to uni and pissed away 3 years getting wasted and having nothing to show for it but debt because that was what was expected of you. I'd have got a trade and worked my way up. I would tell anyone of college age these to think very very carefully if they actually want to go to uni, or is it just because that is the "natural" progression of things these days. In addition to that, a years national service before the age of 21 as mandatory would do a lot of graduates and estate scum the world of good and improve society as a whole.
