Time to reach for the Top Shelf!

As a compliment to Robin's 'Time for a pint!' thread I thought I I would kick off with a thread about our favourite top shelf drinks that contain malted barley and other wholesome ingredients. Whilst beer is for watching the match (nervous gulps) nothing (for me) beats the post victory / commiseration comforting glow of, what Shane MacGowan described as, the "ginger lady". However, I have good friends who like top shelf by-products made out of wheat, corn, rice, rye, grape and (hic) mace. I'll probably open a Lagavulin or a Glenfiddich Rich Oak after our victory against the Rams tomorrow...Enjoy!

The Lakes Distillery is one of my favourites. Wonderful whiskys, and decent gins and vodka. I have just bought number 3 in their ‘Reserve’ series. Number 2 was a stunner.

I am a Founder member at the distillery and a crowdfund shareholder. This distillery is going places and will no doubt launch on the stock market when things improve.

I honestly recommend sampling it: https://www.lakesdistillery.com/

It's rare that I find a single malt I don't like but I confess my faves are Laphroaig and, above all others, Talisker.
I still enjoy the much softer malts like Glenkinchie too.
I will try the Lakes BB 👍
Not a fan of Jack Daniels and co but I like a King's Ginger now and then.
Woods dark rum has been known to pass my lips from time to time also.

My tastes in Whisky and Whiskey are fairly inexpensive. I favour Glenfiddich 12yo and Jameson Irish but then I am too tight to pay £40/£50 a bottle.

Glenmorangie for me although I enjoy trying different ones, Tesco have some reasonable ones at sale price. Isn’t there a distillery opening at Bashall Barn?

Mate of mine bought a barrel from the Arran Distillery. It is kept up there.

I also like the Lowland Malts. I loved the old Bladnoch Distillery; this has now reopened and looks to be doing very well. It is worth a look:

This is in my drinks cabinet. Apparently is sells for quite a few ££ now!!

I bought it in near Oakham in 1994 when I was living with a rather gorgeous lass who had a cottage nearby. The rest of that story will be told one drunken night if anyone is interested in plying me with drinks 🤗

Ditto Al. Nothing but ice / water with a jamesons / Powers Irish or Scotch a J&B blended whisky is very nice. For a single malt The Glenlivet is very acceptable.

With you on all of them too Gord. No need to spend a fortune to get an acceptable whisk(e)y and no additions other than water and/or ice.

I think I might just visit my top shelf this evening.
Yes definitely. When Rovers win away and that lot lose at home , it has to be a top self celebration . I’m not a whisky fan ( although quite like Woodford Reserve in an Old Fashioned ) so a Bene always goes down a treat .

Cheers and Up the Rovers

Nice.
Similar Al... A French Repasse (from Naked) for me with my meal and a J&B later.

btw a taj early but the title of this thread could serve as a fine subliminal message to BRFC fans and owners!;)

I reached for a complimentary bene late Saturday evening as well OOT, followed up by a Lidl whiskey that needed finishing. It's surprisingly drinkable!

Powers is the best "bottom drawer" whiskey from the ROI, if you ask me, and Bushmill's Black Bush the best blended "middle drawer" whiskey. I'd say Black Bush is as good as most malts on the market. The Connemara is probably the best malt, in my price range, but still not cheap.

For the cheaper end malt whiskys, The Aberlour and Old Pulteney are often discounted at the supermarkets, but pretty decent quality.
