Me with a 4 and bottom of the pile last night / lancs live with a 5 and also bottom of the pile last night. Hardly an earth shattering difference is it? His attitude was fine but his performance poor.

Irrational waggy. Here are the last four ratings I gave for JRC.

v WBA
Rankin-Costello.... 4 Where's this lads form gone? OK so he's been injured for long enough but tonight he was almost a liability as he continually failed to communicate with his teammates and made mistake after mistake in his play.

v Swansea
Sub JR-C ( Nyambe 68)... 5 Usually after a sending off a full back becomes the key free man. TM must have thought Joe would provide more guile and better crosses than Nyambe. Understandable too..... but he didn't.

v Luton
Sub Rankin Costello (Edun 23).. 7 A better performance from our long term absentee who was later switched with 'Watt' in a move which I didn't fully comprehend.

v Hull
Rankin Costello...4 Looked rusty and hesitant. Struggled to make simple passes to colleagues on numerous occasions and unless I am mistaken seemed to have an adverse effect on Lenihan's performance.

Not great numbers I'll admit but the '7' rather belies any vindictiveness. I have always respected his ability and before his long injury lay off I preferred him to Nyambe .... and frequently said so. All I do is rate em as I see them and last night he was like a fish out of water, and especially so in that first half. Poor distribution and gifting possession to WBA too often, poor communication with his teammates, he ended up on occasion challenging for long balls with a teammate (he wasn't alone with this btw). He seemed 'not up to speed' with proceedings and slow of thought.
Not just JRC either tbf as my biggest crib last night was the amount of times that we handed the initiative to WBA after gifting them possession too easily. Fair do's Bruce had his new team snapping at the heels of our defence and midfield and allowing them little time on the ball but our old failing of playing 2 and 3 touch football instead of pass and move 1 and 2 touch was making it too easy for them to dispossess us.

btw he and Giles were deemed bottom of the pile in the LT ratings too.
"Joe Rankin-Costello 5
A late call-up to the side, only a second start since April, and looked off the pace at times in the first half, with several hurried clearances and a booking for a foul on Townsend. Improved after the break, but distribution still lacking. Will be better for the 75 minutes under his belt."

As always it's all about opinions but if anyone has judged JRC's performance incorrectly weight of numbers reveal it to be you.

I’m sure JRC is a talented footballer as he’s shown previously but he’s obviously been affected by his long term injury and he can’t quite get any sort of rhythm in his play.
The manager likes him and with a settled run in the team will definitely thrive.

Sorry for the lack of a proper away preview ladies and gents. I had a lot on my plate.

I should be back with the wacky, off-the-wall away previews.

No sex and no politics…………only joking 🥸
