Why no Sam Gallagher thread?

Old Darwen Blue

Prediction Champion 2021 & 2022
Im amazed there isn’t already one as I like to check before posting a new thread. It’s good to read old posts.
I’ve stated on a previous thread that we don’t seem to win many games without Sammy and this has also been noticed by the LT.

We missed Gally on Tuesday. His work rate is phenomenal and just look at how many defensive headers he wins from opposition corners. He is a decent all round player but one that is very much a confidence player.

True his size gives defenders plenty of problems.
However I am still of the opinion that gally could have gone further in his career if he'd done a reverse Chris Sutton and converted to centre half.

Maybe he does now SG but he's been a long time developing. Who knows he might extend his career for a couple of seasons by moving back to CH.
btw I bet he enjoyed his goal v Brum though after they'd been giving him pelters.

Yes Drog he was a slow burner, but as I always say, some players need that time and confidence before they blossom, BBD being a prime example. Not every player is going to hit the ground running. I think I read or heard somewhere that Coventry's main man, the guy with the funny name, had loan spells at various clubs and did nothing them suddenly found his feet at Cov and is now looked upon generally as their best player.

I know I'll be in a big minority after the other night but that's why I've not given up on J Vale yet, apart from a couple of cameo's he's not really done anything in the first team but I still get the feeling there's a decent player in there somewhere and it could still click at some stage.

I feel vale will come good. he's a football brain on him. However the galling thing for me (and no doubt tony Mowbray) is that if Gally and BB hadn't been slow burners we'd be in the Prem.

If TM had changed his tactics we might have been in the prem
If TM had played his men in their right position we might be in the Prem

I think generally there's a bit too much stock put in resting and rotating players in the modern game. I seem to remember when Liverpool were winning everything in the 80's they seemed to have the same 11 and same 2 subs every game, didn't do them any harm, and players are no doubt a lot leaner and fitter on the whole now than they were then. Too much wrapping in cotton wool and using tiredness as an excuse for a poor performance a lot of the time.

They're young lads, playing even three 90 minutes in a week should be well within their fitness compass. Find your best team and play them every week unless someone gets injured would be my mantra.

I think you're rubbing off on me Drog, I'm becoming well grumpy 😀

When Burnley got promotion they had the same team nearly every game. That's the way to win games not tinkering with the line up all the time.
