Best performance so far. Stood up to be counted at the end. Didn't have much to do in the first half, but did very well in the second-half when called upon. Not convincing in the air as evidenced when flapping away a corner, but it was enough. Can't be faulted for their goal. Pulled off a great save in the 71st minute at full stretch and to push it out of danger, and again in the 76th minute when I was certain Bristol City were going to equalise.

Brittain
Ran his socks off. Got forward often, but to little effect. Took a tired and silly booking near the end.

Carter
Silly yellow card early on, but otherwise OK with passing. Nothing adventurous - just steady.

S Wharton
Solid as a rock. Cleared up at the back on several occasions and barked orders. Brilliant header from the corner. He has that in his locker! Seemed to be substituted due to a minor injury, but not sure. Hyam getting back into the starting XI on his return will be no given.

Pickering
Got involved in attacks well. Has a nice delivery on him for the cross, but his pace and agility hindered him from time to time, but he made a juggernaut of a run early in the second-half down the wing! Stalwart.

Tronstad
Rusty start but was very good once the team woke up. Mopped up everything. Put in an amazing tackle from behind and ended up earning two free kicks out of it!

A Wharton
Superb passing over the top, and instigated the move for Sigurdsson's goal. A risky moment early on that gave Bristol City a good chance but we got away with it. Brilliant corner for his brother to score. I've noticed he is starting to use his body strength to shield the ball better. The lad is learning quickly. Seems to tire in the last quarter more than others.

Moran
His touch evaded him today, but he persisted, and came up with a good pass which led to the corner for our second goal.

Szmodics
One or two loose touches and passes early on, but seemed to be our biggest goal threat. Went close with a free-kick in the first half, and got a couple of good shots away. Got the assist for Sigurdsson.

Sigurdsson
Absolutely brilliant control for his goal, followed by a subtle dummy to get the 'keeper down and finished it off nicely. Moments of quality like that win games, and he had some great touches all game, so I agree with Rovers here - he's my Man of the Match.

Ennis
To say he hasn't had a lot of game time, he was a nuisance to the Bristol City defence. Got into some good positions and isn't afraid to take a shot. Was quite strong on the ball, which is something we have missed up front. Worrying that he was taken off at half-time. Hopefully just precautionary.

As for the subs...

Leonard
Great control to win a free-kick in the 90th minute when we needed a get-out.

Hill
Did well defensively when we were looking leggy at the back. Made a loose pass but not in a dangerous position.

Garrett
Neat on the ball. Missed a good opportunity to keep an attack going in the 81st minute with a through-ball but hesitated.

Travis
Think it was the right decision to bring him on to see out the win. Took a yellow for the team late on.

The referee was OK until the last quarter when he started to get things wrong. We've had worse.

Overall, a great win. I knew it wouldn't be easy, but we needed that. Ground it out, and that should be a boost for morale after two stinky defeats. Up to 8th.

Out team looked knackered from start to finish and now face a gruelling coach journey to Southampton the weekend (all flight tickets have already been booked by Rovers fans).

Sammy and Moran should both have been ditched at HT. MoTM was clearly Wahlstedt closely followed by Britain or Tronny. Most of our players fell to the ground at the end, they looked absolutely buggered.

It can’t be motivating playing in a stadium with a sub 8,000 in attendance. Two attempts on target and two goals, their keeper had little to do. It was good to see us grind out a result.

I’m happy with that win. I agree Leo should have got MOTM but keepers seldom do. We did looked jaded and desperately need the missing seven first choicers back. I love watching our young team though and that Finnery lad sounds a good prospect.

I think I got my first correct prediction of the season!
Great to get a win at Ewood but it was obviously a struggle for the lads tonight. They’re probably in need of a home support lift but it’s difficult as BB says if the attendance is low.
Finneran got his own special mention on the Soccer Special at half time as Rovers youngest ever squad player but they really should have done better with our second goal failing to mention the Wharton brothers corner - goal combination! I think Jeff Stelling would have picked up on that one.

Wahlstedt was MoM for me and most in the local. He's had an iffy baptism but seems to be overcoming it.

Carter gave that goal away with a stupid pass to Moran who was facing his own goals with two opposing players in close attendance. What made Carter think that pass was on is a bloody mystery! Granted he is young and learning but that was just stupidity which might have denied Finneran a notable injury time debut at just 15.

Moran had his worst game yet. Never gave up but looked like a few others in the team, jaded and overplayed. Nowt we can do with our injury list but play these lads and it's obvious that some of them desperately need a rest.

Referee Linington... checked back and he's been a model of inconsistency over the seasons. I've given marks alternating between 7 and 3 in previous match reports. Tonight he managed both but in different halves! OK in the first and just bizarre in his one eyed decisions in the second. The BBC reveals Rovers committed 6 fouls and Bristol 7. Not a dirty match by any means so how Linington gave us 4 yellows and Bristol just 1 is unbelievable!

I agrèe with the team looking jaded and if i was JDT i would leave a couple or maybe 3 at home for this weekend game.A win or a draw at soton would be great but must a low percentage chance. The games this month are coming thick and fast. And we need the players fit for the winnable games.

If i had a pound every time the commentator said Adam Wharton loses the ball.
You'd make more for every time he makes a superb pass. Why do our "supporters" delight in knocking our most talented players?

Im a big Wharton fan Al but Radio Lancs seem to be on a mission to call out his faults.Early in the 2nd half they called him giving the ball away whilst he was actually shielding the ball waiting for a player to make a move so he could pass and a Bristol player ran round off the pitch and stole the ball.Maybe they should say a misplaced ball to some of his passes thats why i listen to Talksport 2 when we are on that channel.

The good news on Ennis is that he isn't injured. Tomasson suggested that the early substitution was planned.

Scott Wharton seemed to have a minor knock by half-time which is why he was eventually substituted. Hopefully he'll be back in time for the game at Southampton on Saturday. He seemed to suggest he was fine in his post-match interview.

I’m rooting for him! I really hope he comes good for us. So many wrote Brereton off early on so hope Ennis can step up.
A Plymouth fan I know who lives in Haslingden watches his team when playing in the Midlands or the North really rates him and says he is a great finisher. He confirms his only issue is regular injuries.

The difference there though is Brereton was 19 when we signed him, Ennis is 24 so should be virtually in his prime (I tend to think its more like 26 these days for attacking players, rather than the traditional 29).

There's obviously a good reason though that Brereton cost us £6m and Ennis was a free transfer. Brereton was a risk but people could point to him being the joint top scorer in the winning England side at the 2017 Under-19s Euros, and say this lad could be a star.

The best thing you could point to with Ennis is that he started most games in Plymouth's League One winning side last season and scored 11 goals. Its a decent signing on a free transfer, but for me its also a signing mainly for the bench.
