Allerdyce had self belief possibly too much but at the end of the day he was what was needed at the time. He did what he was brought into do.
It was the reason why Warnock should have been brought in last season instead of Coyle. Another who believes him to be better than he actually is but for a specific job, both are as close as you can be to a nailed on guarantee.
A Manager without self belief is as much use as a chocolate teapot. Complete self belief is a necessary requirement for any Leader of men.

He thought Kalinic was a target man? Did my head in as that boy had talent.
Bilic is quoted as saying that Kalinic represented the future of Croatian football. However wasn't Kalinic the fall back option when we failed to sign Lewandovski?

Agreed but the problem with both Allerdyce and Warnock is when the level of self belief becomes arrogance. There were times during Big Sam's reign at Ewood where he displayed arrogance over self belief.

Exactly right B&W.

Just as an aside I had been requested by John Williams a few days before that Wigan match for a meeting in his office scheduled for 5.00pm the Wed AFTER the game. No idea why tbh except that possibly on BRFCS I had been Ince's biggest and most vociferous critic since his appointment.** I got an email from Lindsey Talbot on Monday informing me that as events had overtaken us (Ince's sacking) that Williams would be too preoccupied finding a replacement for our meeting to go ahead.
Often wonder why JW took that step other than to attempt to persuade me that Paul Ince would be OK in the long term.

** I was bloody bang on too! No idea how Williams got it so wrong and what he ever saw in the useless bugger..... I guess I never will now either.
Its more of the Saint John myth. Souness was Jack's choice. Hughes was a strong performer in polls before Williams gave him the opportunity plus he had the advantage of knowing him well beforehand. Ince was a risk (but isn't that the case with any manager given their first big opportunity?) and while Williams apparently regretted not hiring Michael Laudrup (Kamy's words) who's to say he would have guaranteed improvement? OK he did OK at Swansea initially but what would he have done with the squad he inherited at Ewood? Who knows for certain.

I've never said Allardyce was a bad manager and I was OK with him being appointed under that particular regime. It didn't surprise me that he performed adequately enough without really blowing anyone away it was exactly what I expected. It was others who handed in petitions the previous summer not me. It did however anger me greatly that Mancini was turned down which was a ludicrous decision. Sent an email of my own to Williams after that! I was hoping new owners might replace him and of course they did but I never asked for Steve Kean to be his replacement. West Ham showed there is indeed life after BFS.

Cut the persecution complex Vinjay. Allardyce thinks he's above every club.... even England! :) I believe that arrogance and self belief whilst hardly endearing on a personal level is a good quality in a manager.
Its a respect issue not a persecution complex. City fans are the best in country in my view but they damn sure complain about the media too much. They also complain a lot about UEFA and justifiably so but that's besides the point. The media of course gave Rovers fans an unfair ride over Kean (not helped by Ferguson, Moyes, Coyle and sadly even the likes of Dalglish who defended him) but that's an extreme example. I don't feel persecuted over everything but if people like Allardyce, Neill. Dunn, etc, etc disrespect the club I'll react to it. If I was in charge at Ewood people would toe the line or get the hell out. People like Agnew should have been fired long before they got the chance to leech their rewards though that's also an extreme example considering the extent. That does not mean "toe the line" as relates to propaganda because I wouldn't feed fans a pack of lies. Or try laughable spin attempts like the new away shirt being a "new adventure".

I've said before micro management is the key and that certainly includes stuff put out in the press. That comment Allardyce made about Madrid wouldn't have got past me. Simple things like referring to the club as Rovers rather than Blackburn should be a contractual stipulation for players/managers. Some people hate micro managers but that's the ones who don't know what they are doing. Steve Jobs was a micro manager and Jeff Bezos still is. Not saying someone of that intellect/entrepreneurial talent would likely oversee a football club (Jack was a great entrepreneur of course but he chose to cash out when he felt the time was right...and considering the steel industry recession that followed he was right) but after what's happened in past few years its what any new owner (if they can't be at the club day to day then use others to do it) should do. At least initially because I'm sure some of the staff at Ewood are lazing around as people often do under neglectful regimes.

Dam volcanoes. Aye he was but he shoe horned him into the team, which is surprising given his past. Sam advocates acclimatising players into his teams but with niko I think there were too many changes to his norm (country, role etc). I hated the style of play under Sam but he did well for us and I was shocked when he was sacked. But he never had a chance once we were sold.

Nice headline wasn't it? Still I reckon the truth would have been better "trustees starve Rovers out of Lewandowski move".

Seems odd reading that article that we couldn't afford lewdonowski (sp) at 3.5M, so bought Kalinic for 6M.

He does what it says on tin BFS guaranteed survival but not greatest of football to watch as a spectacle. Did well for England albeit briefly he can boast a 100% record that way.

Kalinic signed several months before. Forced austerity only goes so far.

Also have to question why Lewandowski intended to visit if the club were not going to sign him anyway. My guess is the trustees gave another impression initially either for their own amusement or before a certain family threatened them.

Just watching Sunderland v Derby tonight and pondering the current state of Sunderland gives yet more credibility to Allardyce's managerial ability. How they escaped relegation under him 18 months back with virtually the same squad is pretty amazing.

Key players now missing in Defoe and the left back now at Palace but Allardyce made the difference
