I listened to the interview live and never picked up on the statement to be honest, I was more foaming at the mouth by Rudd saying her dad was a massive labour supporter but she loved that cow Thatcher, how does that work?

You question of the use of the term ‘ coloured ‘ Gav . I agree with your stance on that one . However , almost within the same breath , you use a really insulting sexist term and describe Mrs Thatcher as ‘ that cow’
Like you I’d never use the word ‘coloured’ to describe a black person but at the same time I’d never use sexist words like ‘ bitch ‘, ‘ cow’ , ‘ slapper’ etc to describe a woman. Who uses or calls women those sorts of terms these days ? Consistency is the key in such matters , especially if we don’t want to be accused of hypocrisy.
I was over at the in-laws in Leeds on Saturday night celebrating the 80th birthday of one of the wife’s uncles . Whilst in the kitchen drinking Red Stripe & Carib ( unless I take my own it’s either that or rum ! ) with her brothers , a few cousins and uncles etc and after I’d got fed up of Leeds United, injury time winning goals and the resurgence of West Indies test cricket, we got onto politics and talking about the word ‘ coloured’ . Some of the guys found it offensive because of the historical connotation , some of them couldn’t give a fig , but they all agreed that in today’s agitated political arena , it was probably the right thing for Amber Rudd to apologise.
What they were also all in agreement with was that Dianne Abbott , who weaponised Rudd’s comment , is a complete embarrassment. Uncle Lionel the octogenarian , who was better known for the use of his fists rather than words in his younger days and a real died in red wool , life long Labour voter , said “ she’s an idiot man , a total idiot “
I didn’t dare ask him if he knew she’d sent her son to a private school !
