I'm happy with the point, when the penalty was given did you See the guy who scored the 2nd goal go up to the ref and stick two fingers up,the ref red carded Lenihan and the Brentford player celebrated like they had won.The challenge was 50-50 and Toney went down when the keeper was odds on to get the ball.I thought Brentford let us Back into the game with the substitution they made. But we had a never say die attitude and got the equaliser. Some excellent displays by the subs, thought Davenport and Buckley did well.Strange decision to play Buckley right back, would have thought Trybull could have played there,The left winger gave Buckley a roasting but when he went off Buckley came into the game.Davenport must be near a start now,who plays centre back at Bristol is anyone's guess.Maybe Nayambe plays there and young Pike plays Right Back.Every Game seems another bad injury hits us,our squad is stretched.

All's well that ends well as they say. This match ended well despite any amount of slings and arrows of outrageous fortune coming our way from the kick off. This is most definitely a point gained as most would have taken a draw away to Brentford before a ball was kicked. Despite having the prolific Ivan Toney in attack I do think they aren't quite the same without Saeed Benrahma and the excellent £30m man Ollie Watkins. Strange to think that if those two had stayed Toney's arse would be full of splinters from the bench!
Football should be a contest of 11 v 11 with anything different not really giving spectators full value for money. Red cards have ruined many a game as a contest and this was another such. Whether there should be a Green card for a compulsory substitution and/or an electric blue card for 10 minutes or so in the sin bin is not for me to decide but it must make more sense than to reduce a side to 10 men for a brief and barely discernible shirt tug and especially when the 'victim' threw his legs from under himself as if he had been shot. I'd go for those changes but no doubt the traditionalists amongst us would give them as short a shrift as they currently give VAR.:p

Kaminsky.... 7 Couldn't do much with either goal but made a few telling catches from long balls into the box. I must say I have noticed twice in consecutive matches now that he 'dives down' rather than up and stretching himself for high shots. Watch the vid and you'll see what I mean. Something for the coaching dept to work on perhaps? Also tocay was the first time that I've seen him flustered with the ball at his feet, although it did follow a poor back pass from Nyambe.

Nyambe... 7 Forayed down the right wing and one such run lead to Rothwells opening goal. Contributed well in defence and particularly after Lenihan had been sent off.

Lenihan... 5 I can't give him any more for
a. a stupid and cheap booking.
and
b. a short sharp drag back on Toney for the penalty. Toney felt it and dived without question but no way was it enough for him to go down faster than a ten bob whore.
Coming on the back of a stupid handball which, goodness only knows how, was missed by the Ref v Millwall but which could easily have cost us 2 points. Plus he'll miss 3 key matches now at an important time in our season. These are not the actions of a proper Captain.

Wharton... 6 Unlucky to pick up another injury and replaced on 14 minutes. He appeared on the bench in the second half on crutches and with a foot brace on. Went down with no one around him which I've seen before and suggests an Achilles problem of the type which has just put Bauer at PNE out for the season. If it is Achilles it might not be a full rupture but there is such a poor blood supply that healing is a long job.

Douglas... 5 Another injury candidate I think. Whatever was the reason he was replaced by Amari Bell for the entire second half. A bit of a mish mash in front of him for the first half as the front three didn't appear to be playing to any specific instructions and it appeared none of em wanted to be on the left.

Trybull... 5 Lasted 39 minutes before being rather surprisingly taken off as TM shuffled the pack after Lenihan's dismissal. I'm far from convinced with this lad. He isn't creative, he can't be described as a midfield general, nor a midfield growler and for the most part simply appears to plod around midfield simply tidying up. The jury is out on him.

Johnson.... 7 A solid performance in the middle as he strove to prevent the Brentford midfield controlling the match after the sending off.

Rothwell... 7 Scored a wonderful goal. So 'Joe Rothwell' in it's build up but more Adam Armstrong in it's execution. Joe is a prodigious talent and his ability to carry the ball under close control at breath taking speed from the halfway line to the opposing penalty area needs to be more productive for him to be remembered as a star midfielder rather than a one trick pony. Still he set BB up at Preston with a similar run and notched a candidate for goal of the season today so I shouldn't be too critical perhaps.

Elliot... 7 Grafted well for the cause and played right along the front line for periods in the match, even though his inexperience to play the 10 man game showed through on a few occasions.

Gallagher... 8 I've said in the past that Gallagher doesn't appear to me to actually 'enjoy' playing football but his form has improved of late and today he carried it forward to another level. About time too most would agree but he gave the Brentford defence plenty to think about with his physicality and his energy. He really stepped up to the challenge when we most needed.

Armstrong... 6 Wasn't his day but he still fizzed about and gave the Brentford centre halves and David Raya little time on the ball. Chose to try and set himself up for a shot when it would have been better to slip the ball through to Gallagher on one occasion. They do say strikers are greedy and with rival No 1 Toney at the other end of the pitch I do understand his actions. Surprisingly subbed after 63 minutes.

Subs

Ayala ..... 8 MoM Came on to replace the stricken Wharton after 14 minutes and probably had his best game for us as 'the old head' in a very young back line. He marshalled Bell, Nyambe and Buckley for all the second half and tbf Brentford's much lauded attack was restricted to long range efforts for most of the time.

Buckley... 7 Was surprisingly brought on to replace Tom Trybull after 38 mins to offset Lenihans loss Not a right back by choice but fitted in well in desperate circumstances and played a big part as Brentford stepped up their efforts.

Bell.... 7 Brought on at HT to replace Douglas and despite doing the usual good thing followed by bad thing early doors he settled his nerves down and played some good football.

Davenport... 8 Came on in place of Joe Rothwell on 63 minutes and immediately injected some bite into our midfield by leaving one Brentford player crumpled on the floor after one testy but legal challenge within minutes. Put a real shift in culminating by being in the right place to score the leveller in the 87th minute. I trust this lad has now levered himself above old boys Evans and Bennett in the midfield ranks.

Dolan... 7 Replaced Armstrong on 63 minutes. Surprised me somewhat but maybe TM had almost written this game off and was preserving Rothwell and Armstrong for the next match. Brought his usual enthusiasm to proceedings and gave his all in forcing the Brentford defence to pass it square between themselves on the half away line and keep them from threatening to build attacks. At one stage he resembled that old training ground routine where 3 players form a circle and pass it between themselves with one in the middle closing them down and trying to win the ball.

Tony Mowbray... 7 Would have been 8 or even 9 if I'd judged him solely on his performance when we were down to 10. Commendably every player he sent on brought something to the party and fought like terriers for the cause. However before Lenihan walked I'd have to question the instructions that he gave to his attackers as Gallagher, Armstrong and Elliot didn't appear to be aware of what was wanted from them or where they were expected to play. Armstrong seemed to be more left than normal and with Gallagher more central when I think we all know Armstrong up top has scored 14 goals this season and somewhere near double that in the calendar year and only either a brave man or a fool would want to move him away from where he has been so productive.

Referee Oliver Langford 4 Made a rod for his own back early doors by brandishing his yellow cards so freely. 8 cautions in this match that was hardly a dirty match. Commendably booked Janelt for diving and should have booked Toney too for the same if only Lenihan hadn't stupidly laid his hands on the Brentford man for a millisecond. Also unpredictable as he booked some players for an offence whilst letting others off for the same offence a minute later. Refused to play advantage on a couple of occasions when the rovers were on the front foot and elected stupidly to bring play back for a free kick.

When Rovers equalised the Ref was looking for a excuse to disallow it,he looked at the lino then the Brentford players to see if they wanted it disallowed, the pudding should be in league 2.

The lino must have been on our side then cos I cant believe the Brentford would not have wanted it disallowed.;)

Great review - Thanks
Just surprised no one has mentioned the Brentford player in the refs face demanding a card for Lenihan - The ref seemed to react to him and the second he brandished the card he was clearly celebrating like he had pulled a stroke (wanker!)

I did think that kind of behaviour was bookable?

Anyway I've calmed down now and am buzzing at getting something from the game

Great team work

Thanks for another excellent review Drog . I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again , we really are fortunate to have both yourself and BB as match reviewers and previewers . There can’t be a forum in the country that offers such original ( can’t think of another word BB ! ) and exceptional analysis .

From your review Drog it was your description of Davenport ‘s contribution that enthused me , especially the bit I’ve bolded ;

“ Davenport... 8 Came on in place of Joe Rothwell on 63 minutes and immediately injected some bite into our midfield by leaving one Brentford player crumpled on the floor after one testy but legal challenge within minutes. Sounds like young Joe might have a future if he can do that and to top it , get into the box in the last 5 minutes and score a crucial equaliser against all the odds

Theno in Gallagher 8 shocker
😊

Your softening to Super Sammy aren’t you? If he or Ben were a brilliant finisher as well as what they already do the they would be like Drogba and would be playing for a much bigger club. They both get incredible stick which I don’t often feel is deserved.
Rant over.

Reasonable comment from www.Griffinpark.org:

‘Well I guess it wouldn't be a famous day in our club's history without a late goal to ruin it!

First things first, amazing to be there for the first time ever with fans, just having that matchday buzz back, seeing friends and family in the pub with smiles on everyone's faces. I will admit I was nervous walking in, one of the days that over the years I never thought would happen, it was quite emotional hearing Hey Jude again before kick off, just made me realise what we'd been missing these past 9 months. The stadium is fantastic and at times I couldn't quite believe I was really watching my team in their home ground.

Sadly it was two points dropped and Frank has to take the blame with his late subs, particularly taking off Rico Henry, costing us the game. When I saw Thompson coming on I just thought to myself that I hope Frank doesn't think this game is won and we can relax. The momentum shifted and we sat back, they got space out on the right and sadly Thompson just isn't first team standard yet and had a bit of a nightmare 10 minutes culminating in a poor clearance of his leading to their equaliser and he actually ended up deflecting it past Raya.

With 10 men for almost an hour we really had to be more ruthless, Blackburn lost their two first choice centre backs but we just didn't do enough 2nd half and we lost our way last 10 minutes. Thought Blackburn were the better side for the first 20 minutes, they got runners forward and tried to feed off the long ball to Gallacher. A poor goal to concede though with us opening up far too easily to pass 3 or 4 players before curling his shot past Raya who looked unsighted. We improved once we started to move the ball quicker and get Rico Henry higher up the pitch, some nice movement set up Forss who seemed to lose control of the ball before going down easily and got booked. Pressure began to tell and Toney managed to wriggle free and turn the centre back in the box who was hauled down for a penalty. Thought the red was slightly harsh personally. Blackburn needed half time and we missed opportunities to get a 2nd with us enjoying the extra space and freedom the extra man gives us.

2nd half we just didn't do enough to win it and should have been more dominant but just didn't create enough. Perhaps complacency kicked in with the assumption that the 10 men would tire but the additional subs enabled Blackburn to stay in the game and it was clear they just hoped to keep it 2-1 and try and nick a late goal, which they did. A superb solo goal from Canos was the highlight, cutting in on his right past two players before firing into the top corner. Sadly we didn't push on and the subs only stifled our momentum and invited pressure. It seems obvious not to take your best players off when the game is still in the balance but we were considerably weaker by the end of the game. We invited pressure, Thompson fails to clear and Pinnock just seems to miss his kick and fall over and Thompson diverts it past Raya into the net. It was an obvious example of using the 5 subs for the sake of it rather than needing to. Late equalisers have already become a pattern at home this season and using the 5 subs this season is clearly going to be crucial.

Loved how everyone stayed in the ground after and the players made an effort to clap every single one of them. Football needs fans just as much as fans need football.’

Superb result in my opinion given the circumstances and good to see Rovers really step it up after 2 fairly lucky wins against average opposition.

I think Mowbray deserves huge credit for today. Set us up well initially, then we lose our 2 best centre halves. Nyambe to cente half worked excellently. Bell who he brought on at half time played well. Then Davenport and Dolan were the perfect subs to sure us up after their goal when Armstrong was looking leggy. They only had 3 shots on target, so we contained them well, and then he altered the formation to go for it last 10 and it paid off.

Drog's ratings are generally a bit tough for an optimist like me and I'd certainly give Mowbray a 9/10 for today.

The ifollow commentators did say that after the earlier dive and subsequent caution for the Brentford player that Thomas Franks did gesture 'apologetically' towards Mowbray. I have to say that was only their interpretation of it.

A talent not shared by Corey Evans that's for sure.

btw thanks for the praise OOT. I doubt everyone agrees with me but football is all about opinions as they say.
Must say I do wonder if I need to bother now that most are watching on ifollow.
