Just seen the score, well done Rovers. I should stay away from watching all games.

Who mentioned a pass?

You are right though Robin.;) It was a pathetic attempt and typically Mr £7m Ben Brereton. We might even have nicked the match there.

2 points gone down the swanny today is my conclusion after the events today at the Cardiff City Stadium. Sure we could have had Kaminsky sent off in the first half by Ref Jeremy Simpson which would have spoiled the game as a contest but the rest of the stats are firmly on the Rovers side. 20 shots in an away game is quite some total especially compared to the home side's 12. Cardiff won the shots on target stat by 6 to 5 but it must be remembered that a shot striking the woodwork doesn't actually count as a shot on target and we had 3 of those in the second half this afternoon. Usual possession stats of 35:65 too but that will surprise no one.
It's often said that when a team is on a winning run the next game cannot come soon enough. So going into this match I can only assume the players were absolutely dreading it, I know reading Roversfans.com that most of us were! It showed too in the early minutes. A decidedly gettable chance fell to Adam Armstrong inside the first two minutes but he dragged his shot wide, it was the type of chance that he would have gobbled up 6 months ago. A couple of minutes later and the Cardiff players had their heads in their hands as a cross bobbled right across out 6 yard line with no one touching it. Even worse still Nyambe on the back stick looked set to clear but he slipped and was sprawling on his back when any Cardiff player in attendance could have stuck it away with ease. So 5 mins in and it could so easily have been 1-1.
The first half progressed with Cardiff slowly but surely gaining the upper hand. For my part I put that down to them playing in one third of the pitch and pressing up in support of their attacking players whereas we appeared to be playing in half the pitch and not keeping consistent pressure on the Cardiff defence. On the 25th minute Ref Simpson judged what he saw as a foul by Lenihan on the edge of our penalty area. At first he let play go on and then when a shot flew over the bar decided to bring it back and award the free kick. Rather unusual to play advantage and then drag play back and give a foul but that was his decision. I've no idea what the hell was going on with our wall but it looked all wrong. Two walls with a gap in between is decidedly odd, maybe Kaminsky set it up to allow himself a better view of the ball? I don't know the answer but what I do know is that it didn't work and After Wilson tapped it to Vaulk's his low shot squirmed between Harwood-Bellis's legs and nestled into the corner of our net. A slightly fortunate goal but whatever that was us conceding first again and finding ourselves 1-0 down!
From that moment forward Big Mick's team typical of a Big Mick team immediately dropped back 10 yards with the obvious intention of stifling play and no allowing the Rovers to get back in the game. Might have worked too but for Elliott playing one of his trademark inch perfect, slide rule passes to Armstrong for Adam to stride forward, cut inside his defender and try his luck with what was effectively a tame left foot shot by his usual standards. No matter because the first bit of good fortune for weeks saw Smithies in the Cardiff goal decide first to stop the shot and then suddenly chuck it in his own net! 43 minutes and 1-1 with a goal at that psychologically damaging time of just before the end of the first half.

HT 1-1 and the second half started with the Rovers bouyed by the goal and for once in the ascendancy. The defence appeared in charge and with Kieffer Moore's early threat under close control and in front of them the midfield of Trybull, Johnson and the excellent Travis were dominating their opposite numbers. First off Sam Gallagher who had been slightly more that a bit part player in the first half cut inside from the left with the ball on his favourite right foot and unleash a ferocious shot which beat Smithies all ends up before crashing against the far post and rebounding into play. Replays showed Elliott had his heels clipped in the box or he may well have been able to finish the rebound but without the benefit of VAR Mr Simpson missed it. Shortly after Johnson struck the outside of the same post with what we used to call a toe bunger. It looked easier to pass the ball inside the far post but with a split second to make his mind up it would be over critical to criticise. Within minutes a free kick by Douglas rebounded from the crossbar straight to Johnson all alone on the 6 yard line who completely fluffed his lines, swung, almost missed the ball but his slight connection pushed the ball square to Gallagher in a similar position who also fluffed his lines as well by screwing his shot wide! . Surely it would be a matter of time before the Rovers went in front when in as long a time as it takes to write this sentence we were 2-1 down on 70 mins! So quick the camera almost missed it! What a sickener! I was dumbfounded by this reverse in fortunes. Could our fortunes get any worse? TM decided that 5 subs in one fell swoop was the way forward. Was it desperation? One last throw of the dice? Who knows? What I do know is that the Rovers didn't let their heads drop and continued in search of an equaliser, by the 90th minute things were looking bleak when up popped Lewis Holtby to hit a first time pass and free Armstrong with just the massive bulk of Flint between him and the Cardiff goal. A feint to the outside and a drop of the shoulder sold a dummy to Flint and Armstrong was left to slide the ball past Smithies.
Cardiff looked devastated as their hopes of a play off position all but disappeared with that goal but tbh from what I saw today they are a mile away from a promotion team. How they went on that winning streak when McCarthy turned up I really have no idea.
FT 2-2.

Kaminsky... 5 A poor clearance led directly to Cardiff's second and he dould have done better with both goals. Almost got caught off his line with a speculative shot from distance. Could count himself lucky not to have been given a straight red for a foul on Wilson when he was virtually clean through.

Nyambe... 6 Fairly subdued performance from Ryan today with much less rampaging runs forward. Is his future on his mind?

Lenihan... 8 Kieffer Moore is a tough cookie, one big unit and a dangerous striker to boot. He gave Darragh and H-B some concerns in the first half but by the second 45 they had his measure.

Harwood-Bellis 7 Ditto to Lenihan but in the first half Taylor committed one or two unforced errors in losing possession.

Douglas... 6 Again a little wasteful in possession but had some bright spots culminating in that shot against the bar which really should have seen us go in front. Just as an aside do we have to continually play in ever decreasing triangles until we lose possession when it would be much simpler to spread play across the pitch?

Trybull... 6 Played his part in a defensively strong midfield but he really needs to take an odd risk moving play forward rather than continually passing back when we are chasing the game.

Johnson... 7 Started slowly but grew into the game. Should have scored one and could have scored 2!

Travis..8 Back to the Travis before his injury today. A strong and commanding performance in midfield. Linked well with his fellow midfielders to dominate their opposite numbers in the second half. Keep it up Lewis.

Elliott... 7 Seems to flit in and out of the game but then comes up with a touch of real quality. One of which was the pass to Armstrong for our equaliser which turned Cardiff's entire defence around to face their own goal line.

Gallagher... 6 Some typically dreadful touches but used his size well and was desperately unlucky not to score a contender for goal of the season.

Armstrong... 8 Will be aggrieved that he hasn't got the match ball by screwing the ball wide in the opening minute but scored two typical Armstrong goals marked by pace, control and quality finishing. Unless we find someone else we'll miss him like hell when he goes.

Subs (all on 79 mins)
Downing.. Trybull 6 Brought a sense of urgency along with some quality forward passing.

Davenport... Travis... 5 Didn't really show but nearly made a huge rick.

Dolan... Elliott 6 Put the Rovers on the front foot by pushing the Cardiff defence onto their back foot. Unfortunately overdid it on occasions and gave possession away cheaply.

Brereton... Gallagher 6 Mixed some good play with some typical BB play epitomised by THAT pass in the dying seconds.

Holtby... Johnson... 7 A little more support for the attack than Johnson had offered and his peach of a first time pass to Armstrong for the second goal showed his awareness and quality

Tony Mowbray.... 6 Looks 10 years older than in the Autumn and carries a somewhat haunted look of late. Set up the team well and especially the midfield trio who the result was built on. I was fearful of 5 subs at the same time but tbh it worked so what do I know?

Barmitzvah Boy 10 For deciding to stay away and hopefully taking the jinx with him.

Referee Jeremy Simpson 8 A good match for Mr Simpson. In fact the best Ref we've had for some time. Let the game flow without whistling up for every little collision.

That´s me done for the season with regards to watching games (as mentioned I only watched the last 2 because I got a freebie from someone that was even more disillusioned with the crap than I was). At least I got to see a fairly entertaining game as the last one I´ll watch until we are next on SkySports (or until Mowbray has gone) . . whichever is first (more than likely the first one).

I think a draw was a fair result in the end with both teams missing chances and the fact that a deserved sending off for Kaminski would have undoubtedly meant another loss.
Still, 1 win in 15 is an absolute disgrace and according to stats the 3rd worst run in Rovers´history. Praise Lord Mowbray that we have 5 teams below us to play now. So he might just avoid the gold and silver medal positions of shitness.

I was just looking at the average points to stay up in this league and we already have enough. So the next 5 games are even less important than they have been (yawns) with little to no hope of there being any planning for the future (i.e. - by giving anyone in the U23 set up some game time instead of all the players that we already know are shit or finished or leaving).

If the Academy aren´t worthy of playing some minutes in end of season dead rubbers then what is the point in having an U23 and Academy? Especially given the fact that we have been absolutley dire in the vast majority of games and would already be in League 1 if it wasn´t for Armstrong. Maybe they should just bulldoze the whole thing and build some houses including yet another multi faith centre mosque.

Meanwhile, enjoy the cricket and the golf . . .though cricket especially is difficult in a country that only has a 1 month summer.

I must confess I was busy fixing a door so didn’t watch the game. By all accounts Sammy played well and nearly scored a worldy, that would have had a few choking on their cornflakes on here this morning. Onwards and upwards.

Credit where credit is due Gallagher had a passably decent game on Saturday so, naturally, he was subbed to give Brererton an outing.

Not by ALL accounts ODB. My comments reflect Gallagher's performance imho of course.
