Back down to 3rd already. Fulham have been scoring goals nearly as many times as 10 Downing Street has parties.

I have already had an email response saying my £10 refund for RoversTV is on its way.

In trying to get a match pass from Rovers TV today I noticed it said that from the 21st of January we all have to reregister our log in details. Can anyone else confirm this?

"Souness has a team bursting with confidence and class and, with Mark Hughes, Craig Hignett and Eyal Berkovic on the bench, a squad more than capable of coping with the stresses and strains as the season reaches its climax.

In essence, Rovers are better equipped to claim one of the two automatic promotion places. They have the individual talent, the resources and now the form and the confidence to take into the final two months of the season.

Wanderers, it has to be said, have worked miracles to get where they are. Forced to sell some of his best talent and having to shop in the bargain basement for replacements, Allardyce admits he has exceeded even his own expectations."

That was the Bolton News after we beat them 4-1 away in the 2000/01 promotion season. Anyone able to look at things realistically (which is always less Rovers fans than it should be), must acknowledge the situation has completely reversed now. Fulham massively, and Bournemouth significantly, outmatch us squad wise. Just gotta keep going and look to nick 2nd if Bournemouth slip up, or hope for the lottery of the play-offs.

A soft sending off . Noise from the Cardiff bench meant a weak referee made the wrong decision , but if you’re already on a booking you have to be careful. I guess it’s an opportunity for Dayo to show us what he’s made of . Ryan has without doubt played his part in a back five that’s gone on a 10 game unbeaten run , conceding just three goals .

Rovers grind out a gritty 0-1 away win. Lots of cards. Keeper booked in the 90th minute for time wasting. If that doesn't have OOT reaching for the bene, I don't know what will!
As East Lancashire lads , we should all be reaching for the Bene 🥃 tonight SLKS . What a fantastic backs to wall performance that was . Rovers from 1 to 11 have become a formidably tight unit . I don’t want to tempt fate , but this team is currently Kendallesque in its defensive solidity

I had a bad day today, fell in the street in Clitheroe ,caused myself a injury avoid ing my grandsons pram. I was stuck on the floor and two guys come to my aid. With the help of my son I was upright but shook up. The ten cans I drank during the match helped.
My ratings
Kaminski -9
Lenihan-8
Van Hecke -8
Wharton-9
Nayambe -6
Edun- 7
Travis -7
Rothwell -8
Buckley -7
Brereton -7
Khadra - 8.

Mowbray -9
I thought this was one of our best displays this season. In my eyes we were comfortable I love Khadra and Van Hecke. I'm anti loaners but these two lads will be with us next yr.
Rhino has played his last game.I also saw TM snub him ,I think more likely about the terrible game he had not the sending off. Edun was very very very good, he reminds me off Parker. Travis is improving but nowhere NR the form of the pre Newcastle injury.

Those green boots of Buckley reminded me of the famous song.He shops at Tommy Balls. This guy is like Hoddle, Diaz is just running the transfer window down. The pride I have in seeing him play every week is beyond the boo boys comprehension.

Lenihan and Wharton are warriors.

The case for the Defence

M'Lud I give you the BBurn Rovers defence. Of previously good character they stand in the dock today charged with dereliction of duty, desertion of their posts and going completely AWOL on the 3rd November 2021. In that disgraceful episode of conceding 7 goals (5 of them in the second half) in one match and for which there can be no excuse my clients have pulled together and completely cleaned their act up and now stand in front of you for sentencing. Their contrition is plain, as is their desire to make amends to the supporters of BRFC. After that fateful evening they have allowed the opposition to score just 3 goals in 11 matches and in the process gaining 29 out of a possible 33 point total! Allow me M'Lud to present the following evidence of their resolve to make amends since that fateful night.
Blackburn Rovers | Form Guide | Last 10 Matches | Football Web Pages

My earnest plea in the light of that evidence is that you do not banish them from Ewood but instead apply a custodial sentence on them and confine them to their barracks at Brockhall until Sunday May 8th 2022 when they may be released from all current obligations.... if they still so wish.

So back to reality but what a bloody turnaround from a squad of players that no one thought were anywhere near good enough before that November evening! Even 3 days later we must have been further shell shocked and given a deep sense of foreboding as Brewster put another moneybags outfit Sheff Utd 1-0 up with just 2 minutes on the clock. Since then 19 goals for and just 2 against has seen the Rovers virtually banish the spectre of relegation to League 1 with 20 games still to play!
Can we keep this up? Certainly the players have the belief but I may be being churlish cos I do see some faltering performances of late. Will our want aways see February in? Our three centre halves are as solid as ever but will they stay clear of injury? Will any newbies bring a boost and a 'freshening up' to what I feel is an increasingly jaded set of attacking and creative players? I'm pretty sure as these questions are answered one way or the other that the next two weeks will have a massive influence on the rest of the season.
These stats show the task the defenders carried out......... 41 clearances!

1642345295992.jpeg

Kaminsky... 7 Largely protected by his defence but pulled off at least two excellent saves when needed as Cardiff turned the screw after Rothwell put us in front.

Nyambe ... 5 Played a part until he was harshly awarded a second yellow on 76 minutes. It looked like that could be really costly but we got away with it thanks to his teammates. Unfortunately what could prove to be his last match for the team ended with a sour note.

Lenihan.. 9 Lead his defensive partners from the front against the giants of Cardiff whose only tactic seemed to be 'buying' fouls in our half with the intention of bombing us to submission with free kick's, corners and equally difficult to cope with long throw ins.

Van Hecke... 9 Of our loan signings this is the one that I would most want to keep. He defends like his life depends on it. Some don't like loan signings but for the past 3 seasons Aderaboyo, Branthwaite and THB have brought quality to our rearguard and served us well, Van Hecke might just be the bast of the lot!

Wharton... 9 Another prepared to put his body along with his heart and soul on the line to keep Cardiff out. A heart in the mouth moment saw his ankle buckle under him from a nasty challenge in the second half but thankfully it looked worse than it was.

Edun... 8 Coming to terms with his defensive lb role although Pickering does remain 1st choice. Good player with nice control and touches.

Travis ...7 Battled hard as always but marred with rather lax distribution at times. I think, but I could be wrong that it was Trav who made that goal line clearance too.

Buckley... 7 Cardiff had done their homework and it was not John's day in that false No 9 position when he was isolated in the 1st half. Came into the game much more when TM instructed him to play deeper in the 2nd half.

Rothwell.... 8 Did a good shift in midfield and is now imo fulfilling his potential. What a goal though! Typical 20 yard run at the back four but this time with a sublimely confidant finish. His side footed finish must have started 7 or 8 feet wide of the goal before swerving outside the keeper and inside the post. Anybody else think of THAT free kick by Roberto Carlos?

BBD... 6 Poor game for Ben. His scoring touch appears to have dried up. Lets hope it's only temporary. Might have scored with a half chance that was deflected just wide but had a horror moment with a wild swing at the ball which flew high and wide when a pass to a teammate would have been the obvious option.

Khadra... 6 Fizzed about early on but only seems to have an hour in him.

Subs

Gallagher (Khadra 65) .. 7 Along with Buckley sitting deeper his introduction did help the Rovers to regain territory. Should have had a penalty when flattened when through in the box by the already yellow carded NG (easiest name to book ever eh?). Only Ref Matt Donohue will know why he didn't give it.

Ayala (Brereton Diaz 79) ... 7 Obviously brought on a a consequence of Nyambe's red card. BBD was having a bad game and not contributing much to the defensive effort so the change was necessary and obviuous.

Johnson (Travis 85) Was this to run the clock down? Had Trav picked up a knock? More likely the Gizmo on his back was signalling that Trav was knackered.

Tony Mowbray.... 8 Possibly out thought for the first half as once we had gone in front every clearance was coming straight back, rescued the situation at HT by playing JB deeper and then putting on Gallagher for the by now ineffective Khadra. Should (imo) have made that sub 10 minutes earlier. Didn't look best suited with Nyambe's dismissal.

Referee Matt Donohue... 4 Possibly (as TM suggested) influenced by a noisy Cardiff bench against the backdrop of an empty stadium. Should have given a penalty and sent off NG. Very lax compared to his harsh treatment of Nyambe.

Excellent write up as usual Gord. I agree with you that it was Trav. who made that goal line clearance but it doesn't really matter as long as one of them did.
