The referee and his assistant had a nightmare here. Our goal should have stood. I saw the replay, and don't understand why. This Wilson 'keeper is a curse on Rovers for some bizarre reason.

Wahlstedt
Didn't have a great deal to do, but did well on the things he needed to. Don't think he can be faulted for Coventry's goal when Hill was asleep for the rebound. Made a smart save in the first half by palming it to his side rather than back out to the middle. A bit more confident about him than I was after seeing him against Leicester City.

Hill
He should have reacted quicker to Coventry's winner after the ball rebounded off the bar. That was a critical error in my view. He was otherwise excellent. The type of defender we need. Solid in defence, a big unit, and very handy at driving forward. Very unlucky not to score with a rasping drive in the first half that hit the underside of the bar ('keeper got a great touch on it). I noticed his yellow card was only given after the weak referee noticed the Coventry player's reaction after the foul. Unfair.

Carter
Solid. Nothing of note one way or the other.

Hyam
Better than he has been, but still feels lacking.

Brittain
Another excellent game. I would say Man of the Match. Defending brilliantly and was everywhere going forward. Has definitely usurped Rankin-Costello from that spot.

Rankin-Costello
A decent performance, I think, but can't remember too much from him.

A Wharton
One of his better games this season before being substituted with an injury. Passed the ball very neatly and never lost posession, which I think is the first time I can say that.

Szmodics
Was everywhere. Should have scored in the first-half when he perhaps could have taken a touch to get better position on the ball. These are the things that work against us later in the game. Played some good balls into the box where an instinctive striker would have bagged a goal or two. He is turning out to be a quality signing for this club.

Moran
Played well. Some decent attacking play, but also lost the ball too easily on occasion. I saw the replay of his disallowed goal and didn't see a foul on their 'keeper. Shambolic refereeing to disallow a goal a minute after it's given, especially since there is no VAR.

Markanday
A danger going forward, and I noticed his defending has improved markedly. A good game from him.

Dolan
His best game for a while. Seems to have a bit of confidence about him, but he is still somewhat reluctant to take players on. I can't remember the last time he did it. Somehow, even after playing well, he is largely ineffective.

As for the subs...

Sigurdsson
Should have opened the scoring, but instead made a weak shot straight at the 'keeper when clean through. He clearly gets into the right positions, but is still a bit rusty.

Travis
Has become very good with the ball at his feet. Played himself nicely out of a tight spot or two. That's about all.

Tronstad
Quality control and passing. Played Sigurdsson through. I would like to see him come into the starting XI and perhaps add some more control and steel in the midfield.

Telalović
See previous game reviews.

Well, it's yucky to be where we are in the league. I saw huge improvements tonight in spite of the defeat. It's not necessarily our performance, rather our lack of ability in front of goal. When Szmodics drops deep and starts getting involved there, our goal threat is almost non-existent. We need our strikers fit to start making the difference. On to QPR...

BTW it was the same referee as the handball game at Ewood last season😑

I'd noticed Jeremy Simpson was in charge. No way is he my favourite that's for sure.

He's injured again! Can't rely on him for more than 3 matches in a row plus his goal record is abysmal for a 5m striker playing in the championship

The morning after the night before.

My emotions this morning: exasperated; angry; stunned; and disappointed.

Our team last night were so slow and static compared to recent weeks. The only time we played it out quickly we had a lovely chest down from Siggy and he then somehow tamely shot into the keepers arms when a decent shot or sideways pass would have brought a goal.

4 times in the 1st half Szmodics has the ballon the touch line and weakly crossed straight at the goalkeeper.

That was a lame duck performance against poor opposition. I cannot see where the next points are coming from.

Very much a story of our season last night. Again played some neat football and for periods in the first half they couldn't get the ball off us, but for all that we rarely looked really threatening.

Of course you make your own luck in life but we're certainly not getting the rub at the moment. It's strange that early last season we were generally being dominated by opposing teams and nicking a lot of wins, yet this season the footy we're paying is on a different level to last yet we can't buy a point.

Agree again with Goozy's player assessment's and I'd be amazed if we ended up anywhere near the bottom 3 this season. It'll click at some stage and we'll go on a good run, keep the faith.

We just need to get a striker fit, Szmodic is a great player but last night he was still hunting the ball, BB said he played some woeful crosses but I thought if we had a centre forward they would have been great. Is Leonard any closer to fitness? Maybe we should play Ennis from the start, see how long he lasts. If he converts a chance in the first half it maybe easier to defend a lead than trying to snatch a goal at the end of the game.I thought we looked a lot stronger at the back last night.πŸ™„πŸ™„

Just seen the replays of incidents.
Hills shot was excellent and not really a CH type shot. Hill punched the ball with his head over the ball and no follow through. Excellent and I look fwd to him repeating that.
Moran disallowed goal ... correct. He prob just got there before the keeper but it was split second stuff and Refs always give those decisions when players go in feet first although how else they can go in I don't know.
Coventry's goal was not offside. Aggravating but true.
Looked a penalty on Moran to me at the death when he was pulled back when going for a cross.
