Covid-19.... What will happen next?

Covid-19 and the necessary self isolation / lock down will create many changes to our current lifestyles, not only now but in the future as the population has an unforeseen opportunity to re-invent itself.

A few topics for discussion of the top of my head might include .......

1. Working from home becoming much more widespread with conference calling etc leading perhaps to much less office space being required, less traffic on the roads and public transport etc. Less reliance on town / city centre shops and services.

2. Cash / cheques already declining fast could now (sadly) disappear overnight.

3. Tedious dinner table swank about 4 overseas holidays / ski trips / cruises etc per annum will hopefully become a thing of the past.

4. A kick back reaction by the world against chinese goods.

5. Numerous pubs and restaurants closing as people re-discover the art of preparing food and entertaining at home.

btw...... 1, 3 and 4 can't help but be great news for the planet!

Any more?

There is no community spirit whatsoever. This has made people even more ignorant than ever. Being off school for so long cannot be a good thing. All that learning they are missing out on. My youngest has received work via the computer and she is racing to get it done. So maybe these lot will be even thicker than me.

Speaking of beer WB have you had a pint of Thwaites Gold? It's superb and if you can brew something along those lines put me down for a crate or two.

I have had that, Drog and it's a decent pint.
I was just thinking that a good way to self-isolate for three weeks would be to brew a lot of trial beers.
Only trouble is, can I get the ingredients delivered?

Great news! Seems the situation has resulted finally in Boris Johnson maturing and not continually playing the buffoon! Every cloud has a silver lining eh?

Also when a senior Govt minister finally appears on GMTV he is poorly briefd and makes a complete dick of himself. Michael Gove seems completely unprepared for giving advice and poorly briefed. His illogical utterings this morning exposed for all to see by the GMB presenting team this morning. Gove gave a veritable car crash interview because he simply hasn't been briefed on the many different aspects of construction work. He's ignorant like most of his kind in Westminster of like in the real world. Clueless about what is necessary and unnecessary in the world of construction. For example if your roofs in the process of being replaced with no slates on he'd advise the roofer must cease all work and stay away rather than finish the job yet he deems large scale house building projects fine to continue! How tf does that qualify when all that would happen would be a simple delay of a few weeks on hand over.

Returning to the thread topic re: changes to our routines ........................
Er indoors just completed her weekly Circuits class with a number of others in our conservatory via Zoom instead of driving herself and over a tonne of metal 7 miles to and 7 miles back. I think she will be doing similar with her weekly Pilates work out next week. Will that last? I believe it will as the instructor(s) would no doubt prefer 300 / 3000 / 30000 / 300000 folk paying a quid than a room of 15 needing no special equipment other than a mat paying a tenner.

Am I being naive when I say that after a significant spell in isolation people will learn to cook again! People have relied of ready made meals and takeaway crap for too long and now money saved and health improvements in the family might drive home the values of eating healthily.
" We are what we eat", and hopefully people getting that message will lead to a reduction in both adult and childhood obesity.

Yeah you are being naive. It is not like what we got served by our Parents and even more so, Grandparents. Would not be surprised if kids are just being given crisps and chocolate bars by their could not care less parents. And try walking around any area of housing, The smell of weed. As if they will cook healthy food when they are smoking that and supping allsorts.

Those you are describing are the terminal dollopers who won't work and live on benefits. Their time will come and the sooner the better for all concerned.
However I was thinking more of working people where money is in tight supply. I maintain that I could feed a family of two adults and two children
3 meals a day on less than £50 pw and quite possibly less that £40**! How many can do that who buy Ready meals / TV dinners / Takaways? Crikey one fish and chip supper for a family of four would cost about half of that weekly budget!

**Oh! And they'd be healthier too!
