Covid-19.... What will happen next?

Surely the most important point of all!!!

I'm Pretty sure that despite the unfortunate victims of coronavirus that the world is soooooo much better off for it's existence! As I look around I can hardly see a negative!
Some figures to back up my opinion that Covid-19 whilst the enemy of just one single species is actually a huge friend of the planet. (At this point I'd like to suggest we all take a step back for reflection because there are lots of other species and most definitely only one planet!).
"Last week air traffic in the UK was down by 92% on gthe same period in 2019; rail travel was down 95%, and road traffic down 71%"

Massive financial problems faced for our Universities (and imo about time too!) as many overseas students cancel their plans to study overseas.
As far as I am concerned profit and financial gain have ruined our reputation for good education. Too many pointless and unnecessary courses taking far too long to complete. University education has become a ruthless business directed at profit rather than educating the next generation in a fit manner to benefit both themselves and the nation in the future.

I'd say future generations might judge Covid-19 far differently than we all think.

Hot on the heels of Branson and Virgin what's all this shit today on the news about BA's problems and the nation wanting air travel to get back to normal?
Surely the most important effect of Coronavirus by a mile is in helping bring the planet back from the brink of an irreversible ecological disaster? The bloody news was all about global warming a few weeks back and how unnecessary travel, particularly air travel, is one of the biggest causes and now long faces and crocodile tears from the presenters because of job losses from an industry which was one of the biggest culprits.
I'd go so far as to say that anybody who has not had Covid-19 will be stupid to get on a plane! "Leave the middle seat empty" is the pathetic advice being bleated by the industry but what will that matter when there are people less than a couple of feet in front and behind? Also what is the good of that when many people with pathetically weak bladders walk up and down the aisle to the toilet every 20 minutes or so. In fact why tf is there a stampede to the bog as soon as the seatbelt light goes off? Surely anybody with any gumption will have had a leak just before embarkation?

Q. Will history reveal Covid-19 as massively good or dreadfully bad for
a. The human race?
or (far more importantly)
b. The planet?

I would really like to believe that ODB. It really does need to be.

Sounds like despite what the Premier League and EFL bosses want the powers that be won’t allow this season to be finished any time soon.

Despite the wishes of the commercially-driven football authorities, I can't see how it's possible to play a series of football matches anytime soon.

Regardless of closed doors or not, you have 11-14 players running round with another 11-14 players from another side and a bloke in the middle of it all and another two at the side.
There will be collisions, pulling and pushing, trainers needing to come onto the pitch etc.

Then a few days later, your 11-14 players do the same against a different 11-14 players and a different bloke in the middle etc.
Just needs one person to test positive at some point for everyone involved in any match he has played in to be isolated for 14 days.
Oh, and Heaven help them if anyone gets seriously ill from their greed.

That's apart from the proposal that matches won't be played at the stadia they were supposed to but just concentrated at a few select venues.

So, to recap:

- We won't be playing home games at Ewood
- Nobody can go to watch, so it will be like a training session (no comments on the usual atmosphere at Ewood!)
- You can't get together with mates to watch it on TV either
- If matches were completed and Rovers got to the play-offs, we can't go to watch those either
- Players or officials might get very ill or worse

But the authorities won't have to give Sky and BT their money back, so let's do it 😠

The downsides to this far outweigh the upsides.

Agree WB. Non essential business. Dont see how, in principle, the authorities can justify any relaxation for one non key industry that cannot enforce social distancing of its non key workers and not for others.

Liverpool's mayor makes a good point about crowd congregation at Anfield, even if they can't watch the match or it isn't being played there.

Speaking with "Inside right" tonight on a 'zoom' session and he explained that the media payments are staged with the biggest bucks coming at the end of the season (it's one reason why a Burnley director recently predicted receivership / bankruptcy for the Clarets). That maybe explains football's determination to finish the season. If they could do that then the new season could then be negotiated accordingly.

Burnley in receivership? Would be brilliant!

I miss the lakes
And me. It should have been our lads (18-20) fell walking weekend in the Lakes in a couple of weeks then shortly afterwards 4 of us were going to South America for 2 weeks. Struggling to get a refund from the airline Avianca.

Just to add, the staged payments for clubs only paid when they have completed the season will be necessary for clubs to pay their players their bonuses, appearance money and any staged payments.

Indeed it would Al but lets be careful not to throw stones from our own glasshouse. We'd be there now but for the continuing generosity and commitment of our owners. Who knows what will happen when those commodities run out?

Also I suggested that the present set up will collapse, some clubs would fold and the perrenial '92' will shrink accordingly. 'Inside Right' agreed and said that League 2 clubs (and a few others) would only survive if they revert to part time status.

I haven't seen any official figures (perhaps they don't want to release any) but I wonder how many Sky Sports subscriptions have been cancelled in the last few weeks?
Should Sky decide not make the final payments for the season, do they risk destroying (or significantly harming) one of the main products in their sports portfolio?
