Like his septum perhaps?

I must say his goal at Turf Moor certainly eased my jangling nerves and especially after Sparky's unbelievable miss.
I never tire of watching this. Enjoy..

btw Payton's assault on Friedel was as bad if not worse than Ball's famous challenge on Dunny and was completely pre-meditated. Hand ball for starters and then a totally faked injury. They should have been down to 9 men and we should have scored 4.

Did he do a clockwise 360 degree spin in acknowledgement?:p

I played against mekky many times as he (and 'Roundy') took us for mid week training. His version consisted of more football than training too which was always best imo. Varied between best to 3 goals of normal, 2 touch, only score inside the box etc to keep it interesting. Roundy was a decent player in defence and I could compete pretty well against him if I played CF, but if I was in midfield v mekky he was just from another planet! His 1st touch, balance, 10 yard pace etc were fantastic and his speed of thought was unreal! As the old saying goes the 1st yard was in his head. If I had the ball he knew what I was going to do before I did, and he knew what he was going to do before he even got the ball! Happy days.

"Spanish care home". That's a shame.
My early hero being that he played left wing (as I did back then), he was very quick, had a shot like a cannon and had the biggest thighs in football. I was into Justice League of America comics in those days and and I think the cartoonist must have used Mike as inspiration and model when he drew all those superheroes legs.

He was our penalty expert and despite his thunderous shot he placed them all with his sidefoot into the side netting.

Thank you Mike.

btw Obviously Fred Pickering was at Everton but in today's market there was some money in that pic. We'd never have kept hold of that lot these days. Premier league clubs would have broken the bank for England, Newton and Clayton and Fergy would have gone for a bob or two too. Duggy btw would have been keeping Messi out of the team at Barca!
I can name all the players on there except the lad back left and the two in between Mike England and George Sharples. Was one Ratcliffe?

Blackburn lad Fred left the club before I started supporting the Rovers in 1966 /67 , but he was quite a player by all accounts, as referenced by Drog above . He came back for a season , I remember that vaguely, but by then his career was coming to an end .

I hope Rovers at least acknowledge his passing at the Middlesbrough game .

Rest in Peace Fred .

imo Bowyer never did us any harm, found some damned good players and played a brand of football that was easy on the eye. I liked him and thought he had a very raw deal when he was sacked. My opinion was proven right too by the dreadful time under first the overrated Lambert and then the abomination that was Owen Coyle. Pretty sure that we wouldn't have suffered relegation under Bowyer.

Just because we replaced Bowyer with other mediocrities doesn't mean he was up to the job though, does it.

Perhaps not but 'look before you leap' isn't bad advice is it? Bit like the old saying about wives... 'look after the first cos next could be worse'.
Hindsight is wonderful isn't it but the fact remains that whoever was responsible for so surprisingly binning Bowyer and replacing him with Lambert and Coyle must shoulder much blame for our relegation. Strikes me it's someone who knows little about football.

I said at the time Bowyer was here that all we needed to make us real promotion contenders was two top quality full backs and I will still stand by my opinion. Look at the players that we had in 2014/15 who are now starring in the Prem, Duffy, Cairney, King. Add the old war horse Dunny and all backed up by fringe Prem / top Championship players at that time Marshall, Hanley, Baptiste, Mahoney, Lenihan, Conway, Gestede and Rhodes. Full backs of real quality who can both defend and attack have been our weakness for many years. I can almost count on the fingers of one hand full backs from the past 50 years who were real top drawer quality.

Good on him. Andy Todd as assistant too. The old BRFC / Nottm Forest connection being revived at Bradford.

Now the Yak's retired that leaves Petrovic, Dann and Rochina being the only ones that I would have back. Pretty much my opinion back then too.

btw that's Dann or any 'proper' centre half who can command and organise the team when defending.

Dastardly and Muttley must have made some serious bundle out of dodgy foreign backhanders for that lot..... and by definition the club / owners must have lost a similar amount too.
