I have a no idea what you've just said Abs
Basically its buying/selling currency thru a broker. Your profit or losses are called pips( % of your fund is used). I use a site that does your trades automatically.A guy who is one of the top operators puts his trades he does on for us thru his system. He usually trades long but he has developped a new system that goes live next week which scalps.Scalping basically is going in and out quickly making a small profit often.

Been dabbling in shares for a few years now, always seem to just miss the boat sadly.

We started a few years back with SOLg - Solomon Gold - bought at 1p and currently trading at 42p - Its been back to 2p this year though. Mates have made 10's thousands on that stock, sadly I jumped at 13p........worth keeping an eye on.

Also Marl - Mariana resources - another mining company - keep an eye on that, up and down, but some decent money to be made as each drill stream can bring anything to the surface and the stock rises and falls accordingly.

Got to look at long term investment in both those stocks though.

As for forex - mate of mine has a robot trading forex for him across lots of different currencies, bangs Β£200 in and lets the robot work its magic, doubles has cash each time but then gets greedy, ups the robots ability to trade more and loses.

Not sure if the robot is legal, so please feel free to remove if need be.
40% increase on MARL this week ;)

52 week low 19p
52 week high 96p

Going to buy some Weir Group. My aim is to look at them as a long term investment of 4+ years. They do pumps for the oil and gas industry,

I have been investing in Sirius Minerals for the last 2 years. Loads were bailing out the day before the planning application to build the potash mine went before the North Yorkshire National Park Planning Authority; the shares dropped to around 9pence each and its application was passed by 8 votes to 7.....luckilyI bought a modest number. They are 21p at present and the company is moving from AIM to FTSE 250.
Anybody watching Sirius (SXX). I invested again a few days ago.

MARL now at 10.1p - 52wk high - great profit on the year, I know one lad that had Β£15k in at 1.9p!

Keep my eye on PB's SXX.L - currently at 34p

I bought some more Gav. Also bought into Jupiter India Accumulation fund, the Indian economy is doing well, is high tech and they have a young workforce.....my advice is to take a close look at this - just bought a fair wack of them.

Weir went up about 8.5% today

SXX starting to move back after a difficult couple of weeks probably due to institutional shareholders pushing down prices in order to make a killing buying low then selling higher (easy to do on lower price shares).

SXX still around 25.5p but expecting it to climb, most business comentators reckon it will be 60p+ once production starts - they have plenty of forward orders for when production commences.

Just started to put modest amounts into Horizonte Minerals (HZZ) who are building a nickel mine in Brazil.

Really pleased with Royal Dutch Shell B Class shares today after a steady share price climb they have jumped 4.25% today after the cash dividend was reinstated, I always take reinvestment rather than cash.

Weir Group (valves and actuators for oil and gas) have been a great investment to date as have my long term punt on James Fisher (Barrow based) who are an impressive performer and dividend payer.

Any one else having any stock market joy or woes?

If anyone is interested in investing in new businesses then you may wish to have a look at the crowdfunding platform Crowdcube at www.crowdcube.com

You get access to the finance and business plans and can invest in units of Β£10 upwards. Clearly there is a risk but most of these businesses on this investment platform are covered by EIS which gives tax breaks to the investor as well as Inheritance Tax exemptions if your shareholding’s are kept for a certain period of time.

Clearly entreprenures and small business growth are key to a successful and growing economy and this is a way to support such and to potentially get a decent financial return and tax benefits for yourself (why else would anyone invest?).

A % of the equity of the business is offered to investors to buy shares to fund expansion/ growth. You can post questions on the business plan and financials before you invest. There is a 30 day β€˜window’ for businesses to raise their required investment. If there is over investment (for example I have invested in the Lakes Distillery - I am already a Founder) and they are at about 145% investment level then they have to offer more equity from the original investors rather than devalue the share holding you will be buying.

EIS is fascinating and a great incentive for individuals to invest in companies if the future - as long as you accept some will fail. You need to declare the investment on your tax return and you get tax relief on the amount invested. As for inheritance tax I recall if you keep your shares for 5 years then your estate is not liable to any ITax on gains (profit) as it is excluded (you should of course check this). As with most share investments you should be looking at the long term of at least 5 years.

Generally I started investing a few years ago at Β£50 a month but increasing this amount. I have a decent portfolio these days which will help fund my retirement and kids inheritance (unless Comrade Corbyn bans inheritance). I have diversified across anumber of sectors with most recent investments being in India and Latin America.

Hope this helps - remember investments can go down as well as up and all that s**t.

For normal share trading yes.

For crowdfunding (up and coming businesses) no. It is all about taking a calculated punt, you make your money if the business either sells out / bought out or launches on the formal FT stock market.
