Fascinating appointment, left field but very encouraging. The way NZ has risen to number one in the world is a credit to their way of doing things . Hopefully McCullum can replicate their formula in English cricket.

I’m not sure what influence Rob Key had in this appointment but this is brave and forward thinking

Just done a bit of research . McCullum's appointment was unanimously decided upon by a selection panel including Key, ECB chief executive Tom Harrison, strategic adviser Andrew Strauss and performance director Mo Bobat.

I like how everyone is spouting about McCullum's Fastest ball century.
Yes, it was great, 54 balls, he ended up with 145 off 125, which is also great, BUT, they lost the test by 7 wickets!

He’s one of the best four batsmen in the world. Just a pity he isn’t Lancastrian. Fantastic innings from Joe Root and a decent spell from Parkinson with three wickets , including that of Root . Perhaps Joe will put a good word in for him with the new England bods .

I remember him at Lancashire where he seemed to run twice as fast between the wickets as anyone else we had.

I wouldn't have recognised him without his dreads though.

Roses match ends in a draw . Match saving innings of 82 not out by ex England U19s Captain, Harry Brook . He does seem an accomplished young player , must be on England’s test radar . He certainly adds backbone to Yorkshire’s middle order and has impressed me on the couple of occasions I’ve seen him live .

Look like Roy Key will appoint Australia women's coach Matthew Mott as the next white ball coach according to the Daily Telegraph reporting that the Queenslander is in advanced negotiations after impressing Key's interview panel.

Key has also been taking a lead role chairing the selection process for the first home international of the year on June 2. The former Kent skipper does not intend to hold on to that responsibility in the long term, and is considering returning to a national selector, but has been working closely with Stokes on the initial squad.

James Anderson and Stuart Broad are both certain to return following their omission from the series defeat in the West Indies, Joe Root's last as captain, but the vastly experienced pair could be joined by fresh faces in the form of uncapped trio Harry Brook, Matt Parkinson and Matthew Potts.
