Hardly 'historic' dave, but a win is a win. It was down to a basic professional approach imo. The aussies aren't here to entertain, they are here to retain the ashes. It's like in football and England v Italy / Germany. We want to win in style but at the top level that usually ends with us falling between two stools.

Happens a lot in football too. We can all recall KK's attack attack attack philosophy at NUFC which won them nowt but friends. Also football's most ridiculous statistics ... the ones about possession. As an example (I can't be bothered researching this) but I wouldn't mind betting that Luton's possession stats for last season would be the lowest of any promoted team over the past decade. In fact one could apply that to the past two seasons when in 21/22 they only missed out on promotion by a whisker. In boxing who can ever forget the Ali-Foreman rope a dope fight?

It's amazing that the Yorkshire cricket authorities didn't make a lot more of the bugger's anti Semitism. I don't know how he can hold his head up and accuse anybody else of racism. Too right he should be unemployable.

however imo blame for losing this test must be taken by the team for playing poorly on day one plus the ridiculously cheap wickets give away schoolboy errors, especially the unprofessional first innings dismissals of pope and duckett. England must not let this detract from the overall story.

Meanwhile I'd suggest bringing in Alex Ferguson to manage the team who would turn this issue into forming a siege mentality in the team and turn the entire test series around by injecting much needed grit, determination and professionalism into their game. Rem it's headingly next where proper test match cricketing attitude is a must.

England 237 all out after another rescue act by Stokes who scored 80 and go his side within touching distance of the aussies. He needed help and he didn't get much.

My prediction is that England will go full on bazball from the off and throw caution to the wind as this is another 'must win' if England want to regain the ashes. Looking at the weather forecast for Manchester it's suggesting a rain affected test which usually results (along with predictably slow play from the Aussies) in a draw and the series effectively over as even a win at the Oval would result in the Australians retaining the Ashes.

England hammering the Aussies at OT. Just watch the weather screw it up now. I mus say the month to play a test at OT must surely be May. I think we've had two dry St Swithins days in the last 10 years. Anyway no matter, Lancs and yorks have been sidelined next year. No test north in either counties! Southern bastards have kicked Northern cricked fans in the teeth good and proper.:mad:

I must admit it has been a bit difficult to keep up with this test due to the 4am GMT start time and the disgraceful fact that there is not even a highlights show on terrestrial TV.
Fortunately I have access to BT Sports (now TNT Sports) at the moment so can at least watch extended highlights at 6pm today.

As a side note West Indies also won an exciting test in Australia by just 8 runs.
